realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Oh, Throw Me In That Briar Patch! - 12/10/09 12:22 AM
When was the last time the agency you work for offered to pay for shoeing your horse?! When, in fact, was that ever a WORK-RELATED expense?!
Here at Big South Fork in Jamestown, Tennessee, horse properties are a way of life for realtors and alot of would-be buyers want to ride the trails here to get a feel for the area. I bought a second horse last year to be my "real estate" horse," a Tennessee Walker that I could count on to provide a safe and smooth ride. But, it's been a less-than-stellar year in terms of closings and commissions … (6 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Having The Right Tool For The Job - 12/07/09 12:35 AM
These are my new shoes. You people in metropolitan areas are probably cringing because they're so ugly it almost hurts to look at them and you probably wouldn't be caught dead wearing them in public. But...they are the right tool for the job!
I just got a new listing this past weekend and, when I go into someone's house to list or to show, I always wear shoes that I can slip off at the door, as a courtesy to the homeowner. In this instance, I could slip them right back on and go out to walk the land with the … (6 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Eat Your Hearts Out, You Yankees! - 12/05/09 02:59 AM
Well, we had our first "winter weather advisory" of the season here at the Big South Fork in Jamestown, Tennessee and you Yankees can eat your hearts out. We had an overnight snowfall so it looked like Winter Wonderland this morning....which it was!
This part of Tennessee is known for its mild winters so we can enjoy all of the beauty with none of the drawbacks....like seven loooong months of it, having the snowblower serviced, keeping a bag of "Ice Melt" by the back door, rotating your snow tires, trying to prevent ice dams from forming on the roof. How do … (12 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Tennessee Recreational Properties - 11/11/09 11:30 PM
There's a new real estate agency in Jamestown, Tennessee but they're not "the new kid on the block." TRP has long been a fixture here in the Big South Fork area but they're expanding their real estate services beyond marketing and selling properties in The Highlands, Hitchin' Post at Hunter's Ridge, Vista Pointe at Island in the Sky, Nichol Creek Farms and River Park, to becoming a full-service real estate agency, listing, marketing and selling properties all over the Big South Fork area.
With their considerable resources, they will be the premier source for equestrian and country living properties on the … (4 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: SPEECHLESS SUNDAY: A Typical Country Scene Near Big South Fork Tennessee - 11/08/09 12:59 AM

A friend traveling south on Highway 127 from Jamestown, Tennessee swung around the other day when he saw me stopped, northbound, by the side of the road. I hadn't broken down; rather, I had stopped to take a picture of this donkey. He looks like he dipped his muzzle in a bucket of white paint!
The Big South Fork area is very rural and this is a typical country scene.

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: What's In Those Saddlebags, Anyway? - 10/29/09 10:45 PM
Big South Fork National Park in Jamestown, Tennessee, has 125,000 acres of fabulous trail riding but it is rugged country so most riders carry saddlebags filled with....whatever you might need!
A trail saddle or a Western saddle has a lot of strategically placed D-rings for attaching a variety of bags.
In front, I have a small bag that holds a bottle of water, my Blackberry and a GPS(and a pair of cheap cheater reading glasses so I can SEE them)...items that I want readily accessible.
A flat pouch snapped to the breastplate holds emergency contact info, a copy of my air … (29 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: No Rest For The Weary! - 10/28/09 05:56 AM
Some months ago, riding acquaintenances from Vermont looked me up when they considered relocating to the Big South Fork area in Jamestown, Tennessee. They subsequently planned a trip and I recommended that they stay at a lovely bed-and-breakfast, the Wildwood Lodge, just up the road. And what would a trip to Tennessee be without a ride on a Tennessee Walker? So...I took them riding.
They said that they had never ridden gaited horses and did not know how. "What's to know," I said, "get on!"  After the first ride, they had grins from ear to ear. It was such a pleasure … (2 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: Even This Cat's A VOLS Fan! - 10/23/09 01:25 AM
I recently wrote a post about the University Of Tennessee football team, the VOLS, and the incredible support they enjoy in this part of the country. It was inspired by some amusing pictures I took, after realizing how many things in this area are orange-and-white, the team colors. http://activerain.com/blogsview/1247944/seems-like-everyone-in-tennessee-is-a-vols-fan-.

I came down the pet food aisle in Walmart the other day, here in Jamestown, Tennessee, and just had to laugh when I saw this endcap display of clothes for dogs, all in the distinctive VOLS orange and white! My Siamese cat, Tazz, wears a harness and walks on a leash so...I couldn't resist!

realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: You're Either Making Dust or Eating It! - 10/15/09 12:19 AM
You may have seen that slogan on a teeshirt; it's considered "Cowboy Wisdom." Well, it's pretty much of a true statement and can certainly be applied to the world of real estate.
Gone are the days when realtors went to a real estate office and waited for customers to walk in. Now it's all about getting the customers' attention through some form of media. I am literally a few minutes from Big South Fork National Park in Jamestown, Tennessee, which is a destination for trail riders. People who live within a few hours come on weekends and others trailer their horses … (21 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: Watch Where You Put Your Fingers! - 09/30/09 12:44 AM
This is good advice in any situation but especially for realtors. I just sent my husband over to my newest listing to put a sign in the yard, to take a couple of pictures and to find the key that the sellers said was hidden.
I told him not to feel around on the ledge "near the door there, to the left." I try to carry in my car all the items that I might need to work as a realtor, including a small ladder, gloves and a flashlight...for just such an occasion!
I am TERRIFIED of spiders and have NO … (10 comments)

Big South Fork, Tennessee, is a destination for trail riders and at Rockhouse Ranch, horses are welcome! This exquisite parcel has 18.87 acres, some wooded but mostly open so you can tuck your new home in the trees and look out over established rolling pasture. There's picturesque wood fence on three sides; you can already … (2 comments)

If you're thinking of moving to the Big South Fork, here in Jamestown, Tennessee, and you've already bought a piece of land and had it cleared, step three is building a cabin. The Big South Fork national park offers the best trail riding east of the Mississippi, so homeowners don't want to be slaves to upkeep and maintenance. ..they want to spend their time riding, hiking and enjoying the myriad of outdoor activities that the Big South Fork offers.

realtor jamestown tennessee: Moving To The Big South Fork, Tennessee: Step Two Is Clearing Your Land - 08/15/09 02:28 AM
If you're planning on moving to the Big South Fork, here in Jamestown, Tennessee, and you've chosen a piece of land, step two is clearing your land. There are two ways to do it, depending on the location and the lay of the land.
The traditional way is for a bulldozer to fell the trees, pushing them into a huge "burn pile," which will smolder for days. The advantage to doing it this way is that stumps are removed. The disadvantage is that bulldozers leave ruts. Another choice, especially if the land is lightly wooded, is to use a lighter piece … (6 comments)

If you're thinking of moving to the Big South Fork, here in Jamestown, Tennessee, the first step is to buy property. Many of the cabins in the Big South Fork area were built for weekenders from Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga or down from Kentucky. realtor jamestown tennessee: BIG SOUTH FORK TENNESSEE: In The Heart Of Horse Country! - 08/10/09 04:03 AM
There's something about the shape of Tennessee barns that tells you you're deep in the heart of horse country. There's a softness to the rooflines that gives them a signature silhouette, so different from the crisp right angles and 12-pitch roofs that you find in other parts of the country. Of course, winters are mild here so barn builders don't have to factor in the "snow load" that is such a way of life in places like Vermont, upstate New York, Minnesota, Montana etc.  And there are no hurricanes, so barn builders aren't limited to the single story structures you'd find … (0 comments)

realtor jamestown tennessee: JAMESTOWN TENNESSEE: The Rumor Mill Restaurant - 08/06/09 01:11 AM
It's no rumor...The Rumor Mill restaurant serves great food, simple as that. Centrally located in Jamestown, Tennessee, between Food Lion and Tractor Supply on the "main drag,"  it caters to the local populace as much as to the riders who throng to Big South Fork national park for the best trail riding east of the Mississippi.

Recently opened, it is owned by Debbie Duckworth who is no newcomer to the restaurant business. She and husband, John, opened their first restaurant in Eustis, Florida in 1995. After selling that, they recognized the opportunity to serve the community of day trippers attracted … (0 comments)

I live minutes from the Cumberland Trailhead into Big South Fork National Park, in Spruce Creek Acres, an equestrian community that abuts the park itself. Horses are a major part of daily life here and this is a very active, supportive horse-oriented community. It is a gift to work as a realtor here, listing horse properties and selling horse properties to horse people! We joke that I've probably done more real estate on horseback than off! If you want to "live where you love to ride," let me help you find YOUR Big South Fork horse property .
