We all know that most home buyers begin their search for homes on the internet - 80 - 90%, depending on which study you read. But where exactly are they looking for homes? Which websites? Well, every home buyer I have spoken with about the topic this week tells me that they are looking on several different sites. Why? Are they unaware that the aggregator sites are fed by our MLS entries? Do they like one site better than another? There seems to be a few reasons. As I went up and down the isles of the Office Max store on State Line today, a salesperson came up to me to ask if I was finding everything okay and did I need any help. 'Good' I thought, 'Office Max is finally learning customer service.' Then another salesperson came up with the same inquiry before the first salesperson had disappeared from view! Five different salespeople accosted me with the same inquiry in less than 20 minutes but when I got to the cash register, I had to stand in line. Mark and Diane's company, Caring Transitions, had been asked to sell some rare books and first editions to raise money for the Heartland Book Bank. Showings normally decline before Thanksgiving, remaining low during the holidays. Then we usually see a surge of activity as Spring hits. This year we saw a big increase in the number of home showings right after Christmas week. Why? Well, in Kansas City, we get some snow and cold weather so people would rather stay inside and look for homes on the internet than get out in the weather to see homes in person. I think this is probably true of all 4 season climates. People who view homes for sale in Kansas City during snowstorms are deadly serious about buying (3 comments)
