What do you do if you gotta go right now?
Unless you live and work in a resort, rental and second home market like I do, this blog may not make sense to you. The rest of you will definitely "Get It."
Please don't (and don't allow your customers/clients to) use the facilities when showing vacant properties. Around here folks often turn off the water when the house or condo is not in use. Just do what? I don't know. (I'm sighing and rolling my eyes.) Whatever it is you've been putting off. (Exasperation in voice.) Whenever you say (in your head, or out loud) "One of these days, I'm gonna...fill in the blank." Just do it!
I think we all do it sometimes but it's not a good habit. Putting things off, that is. If it pops into your head, you probably need to do it NOW.

Now, this should put to rest forever any claim that Carolina Blue Skies are rivaled anywhere!
As some of you know, I'm learning to use my new digital camera. I try to have it with me everywhere I go and I take hundreds of shots every day. Most shots are simply deleted. I was thrilled with this one! I think the way the birds' formation outlines that beautiful cloud is exquisite but I was most pleased with the fact that I actually captured the color of that sky. You should have your digital camera ready to grab at any given moment. Shots like this one cannot be 'staged'. They just suddenly appear and if you're ready you may be able to capture a moment to enjoy and share for years to come.
I should probably stop right here to say that "Yes, I know many of you have one piece of equipment that does multi-tasking to the Nth degree." My best friend Paula, scoffs at me constantly for my antiquated tools. But, they work for me.

My priest is new to the coast and working hard to become an expert on all the plants, shells and wildlife found here on the island of Bogue Banks. He's asked what the name is of these little flowers.

I've been using my professional, business card, head shot picture for my profile in Active Rain since I started here.
Today I decided to change the picture for the season. Since I just had a pretty fun shot taken on the front porch at home with my three grandsons, (Just after we carved the Jack-O-Lantern) I decided to use it until after Halloween.
Will it make me look unprofessional if somebody (Wonderful Thought) googles me and it pops up? Do I look fat and stupid? Is it too far away? And is it OK to change pictures with the season?

This is the Episcopal Flag flying over Trinity Center, the Episcopal retreat center in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina. I took this picture Sunday afternoon while on a walk on the beach with my three grandsons. My intention is to write a blog about the center but for now it is simply A not so Wordless Wednesday post. About every other week, I collect my three grandsons for a sleep-over. They love adventures, so I'm always looking for new places to visit that will be fun for them.
This week-end we visited the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter (OWLS) in Newport, North Carolina. The facility has been around for almost twenty years and serves as a "hospital" for injured or orphaned wild animals in our area. The program is run by volunteers and is an amazing place for little boys to discover.
The boys were very excited to see so many "gooses". Quite tame.

I've learned to take my camera with me for my early morning run. Sometimes the things that thrill me are common, like the grasses that abound here. This morning, I was amazed at the play of light on the pampas grass. Nothing fancy, just plain but beautiful. The hint of fall is in the air here, and it was very windy this morning. I love living on the island of Bogue Banks.

OK, I'm sure it's nothing. Or I should say "they're nothing". But let this be a warning to all of us.
Thursday I went to the dermatologist to have her look at a suspicious mole. She quickly dismissed it and said, "oh, that's just a (fill in the blank with some unpronouncable medical term.) Whew! I'm reaching for my bra...
"mmm...I don't like the looks of this one over here." What "one over here?" I'm thinking as she shined some fancy light on the area.

Right here in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, in the middle of this little island of Bogue Banks, you can find one of the most beautiful golf courses anywhere. THE COUNTRY CLUB OF THE CRYSTAL COAST.
It is a member owned club and in addition to the golf course, there is a wonderful club house with pro shop, meeting rooms and dining facility as well as a member lounge. There are tennis courts and a brand new swimming pool.

Come on, you walk through the house and there are 5 rooms with beds and dressers. Nice comfortable bedrooms, right? NOT! Go back and check. Do each of these rooms have closets? If not, they are not technically (legally) bedrooms. OK, so they all have closets? Well, now go to the health department and ask for a copy of the septic permit. It says 3 bedrooms? Well, now you know. It's a three bedroom house with two bonus rooms that are currently being used for sleeping quarters.
Don't advertise that house as a 5 bedroom house!

If you live in Carteret County, North Carolina, or if you vacation here, you'll know what this feels like...A train rushing at you just feet away.
Today I almost felt the train. I was driving down the main drag, Arendell Street, Morehead City, and pulled into the left hand turn lane. That was as far as I could go because the train gate was down and the red lights were flashing.

Thank God for troubles, problems and cloudy days.
In the real estate world we've been challenged for a few years now. We have had to dig deep, cut corners, work harder and smarter and learn new ways of doing things. Often I've missed the "good old days" when all I had to do was list it and it would sell almost immediately and very close to full price. Ah...the good old days.

Today was the first really sunny day of the season when I didn't have to be in the office. It was wonderful! The kids came and we all walked across to the beach and spent hours playing and having the best time.
Now everybody has gone home and I'm catching up on some of my chores and thinking I better go take some ibuprofen for my sunburn and it occurs to me. My first ever featured blog was about the value of trees. I hope some of you remember.
As my grandsons get older I'm learning to appreciate trees even more. Jackson is my oldest at five. His little brother Tyler is three. Tyler's the one in the back. (Their cousin Tanner is four but was not here on the day Jackson decided the tree in my back yard could be climbed and little brother followed him as always.
