Being Patient Through Transformation. - 08/31/11 08:03 AM
“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” ~Charles R. Swindoll
Ever noticed a chrysalis hidden within its cocoon? The final few moments before it emerges as a butterfly compose what science terms as metamorphosis, a transformation.
If you have been lucky enough to observe this process, which I highly recommend watching, you’d notice it has to struggle quite a bit before it gets all the attention for being the magnificent creature it is.
It’s long and painful. However watching it, you may be tempted to clip off the outer covering of the chrysalis … (2 comments)

Are You Afraid Of Success? - 08/30/11 11:17 AM
“Success will never be a big step in the future; success is a small step taken just now.”  ~Jonatan Mårtensson
We often talk about releasing the fear of failure to create motivation and momentum, but I’ve found that there’s another obstacle that can keep us from taking risks: the fear of success.
Success in any pursuit requires responsibility. At one point, I decided this was one thing I didn’t want. I didn’t want people to depend on me. I didn’t want to create conditions in my life that I needed to maintain with consistency, both in effort and earning.
I wanted … (4 comments)

Hurricane Irene Heading to New England. - 08/26/11 08:09 AM

The wind chimes have been removed over night because of the lovely sound became and irritable noise, the sun hanging on the deck wall has been knocked down a couple of time, chairs have moved from one side to the other on the deck like on a weird barn dance. The entrance to the Westport River has been much quieter in the last few days, just a couple of boats yeaterday and much less today, not the high traffic we usually see at this time of the year. The water is warm and the wind is actually nice after a … (3 comments)

Things to keep in mind with Hurricane Irene around the corner - 08/25/11 09:33 PM
According to Terry Eliasen, Meteorologist, WBZ-TV Exec. Weather Producer this are things to keep in mind:

THINGS TO KNOW
Here are some important things to keep in mind regarding the heaviest rain and strongest winds in a hurricane. The most powerful winds are always on the east side (right side) of the storm. So a track over or near Cape Cod would mean the strongest winds over the outer Cape and Islands. The heaviest rainfall is almost always on the west side (left side) of the storm, so assuming the current forecasted track holds, the biggest issue from Irene for most … (2 comments)

Gates Are Made To Be Opened. - 08/25/11 10:37 AM
“Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn’t have the power to say yes.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
Many times in life we ask questions of people and then put way too much weight on their answers.
We ask people we admire if they think we have what it takes, and then consider their opinions fact. We ask people we respect if they think we should take a chance, and then follow their advice as law. We ask people if they’ll take a chance on us, and then interpret their response to be a reflection of our potential.
Other people can’t … (5 comments)

Take a Little Time to See The Beauty Around You. - 08/24/11 09:30 PM

“The moment one gives close attention to anything, even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.” –Henry Miller
It’s funny how on some days there seem to be more signs that life is good–people looking out for each other, positive intentions yielding positive results, nature revealing small pieces of beauty. The truth is that there’s always something good there. It’s just that sometimes we’re not in the right head space to notice and fully appreciate it.
The question isn’t whether or not the world is a wonderful place; it’s whether or not … (6 comments)

What are you made of? - 08/24/11 09:56 AM
If you've read my blogs last year you know that 2010 was not the best of my years. Many things  have happened. Things that brought me to the ground, yes, I literally mean to the ground, flat, broken, hurt, so powerless for even lift my own head for a long while. My heart was broken into tiny pieces over and over again by differrent people in a period of 6 months. Broken by people I believed were friends; by people I thought would be here for the long haul; broken by the closest of the family I thought I had and … (1 comments)

Just two more weeks! - 08/23/11 08:35 AM

A friend of a good friend of mine was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with an advance stage of lung cancer which has already metastasized throughout her body.
There is nothing science can do at this point, and she has decided not to go through chemo. She wanted to spend her last days at home surrounded by friends and family. At this point doctors have given her two weeks to live (as of last week). Family and friends however don't  think she'll make to the end of that. Her eulogy is ready and the services has been … (4 comments)

Home Sales Down in July but Up Strongly from a Year Ago - 08/22/11 02:50 PM

Existing-home sales declined in July from an upwardly revised June pace but are notably higher than a year ago, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. Monthly gains in the Northeast and Midwest were offset by declines in the West and South.
Total existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, fell 3.5 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.67 million in July from 4.84 million in June, but are 21.0 percent above the 3.86 million unit pace in July 2010, which was a cyclical low immediately following the expiration of the … (0 comments)

What Brand do You Aspire to Be? - 08/22/11 02:37 PM
By Jose Perez

We all know the NAR stats:
• 87% of consumers start their search online, yet 48% of Internet leads are not responded to
• 90% of consumers would use the same agent again, but only 11% do
• Add these, and other equally dismaying stats, to the ability for consumers to access information without our involvement, and then mix in our industry’s reputation for less than stellar professionalism, and you come to an undeniable conclusion: to be successful in the future, you will either have to compete on price or you will have to deliver an incredible … (2 comments)

Are your fears justifiable or are they just in your immagination? - 08/22/11 01:29 PM
Sometimes we feel certain that we know exactly what we’re seeing. If you’re anything like me, odds are you’ve had plenty of opportunities to recognize your perception is often off.
A friend of mine once told me a story about a near-confrontation in the subway. She saw another woman dressed in what one might call Gothic clothing. Although my friend’s look was more conservative, she loved the other woman’s funky-looking shirt.
Unintentionally, she started at it for a while, admiring the unique cut and wondering if she could pull that look off. When they both got off the train, the other … (1 comments)

Mortgage Rates Are at a 30-Year Low. - 08/18/11 07:58 AM

As we've all heard, mortgage rates have steadily declined over the last several years and now stand at an all time low.One of the attractions of buying a home is it gives you use of your investment while you are paying it off, and over time the equity in your home will increase. Buying a home is a very expensive decision to make and you need to take into consideration all of the known-factors, such as interest rates, income, and fixed expenses. In addition, you need to predict your home affordability into the future. In the regular repayments for your home, … (2 comments)

A Contract With The Right Contractor - 08/18/11 07:33 AM

Homeowners in the process of overseeing their first property renovation are in for a real treat as they get a crash course in working with contactors. While most are professionals who are dedicated to doing the best possible job, there are some out there waiting to take advantage of a homeowner's naiveté. Here are some steps to take before hiring a contractor.
1. Get references and check them—Most contractors will have good references, but a homeowner needs to know as much as possible about a contractor's work ethic before they sign on the dotted line and commit to spending … (33 comments)

Certainty Is an Illusion - 08/17/11 08:33 PM
“More important than the quest for certainty is the quest for clarity.” -Francois Gautier Lori Deschene
The secure job could become obsolete. The dependable friend could move away. The stable relationship could run its course.
None of the things that seem secure and safe are guaranteed to endure–not forever, or for any length of time, for that matter. The nature of life is that everything moves and changes, ebbs and flows, with beginnings, middles, and ends.
We don’t get to know what will end when. We don’t get to know how long things will last. We can play the odds, try … (4 comments)

Deficiency Judgments: State by State Guide | How To Avoid a Judgment - 08/17/11 08:07 PM
Real Estate Insider News - Tim and Julie Harris - August 13, 2011 ·   Short Sales and Deficiency Judgments. A State by State Guide. What is a Deficiency Judgment?
A deficiency judgment is an unsecured money judgment against a borrower whose mortgage foreclosure sale did not produce sufficient funds to pay the underlying promissory note, or loan, in full.  The availability of a deficiency judgment depends on whether the lender has a recourseor nonrecourse loan, which is largely a matter of state law. In some jurisdictions, first mortgages are non-recourse loans, but second and subsequent ones are recourse loans.

IRS's top 10 tax tips for home sellers - 08/17/11 07:51 PM
Real Estate Tax Talk
By Stephen FishmanInman News™
From time to time the IRS releases tips designed to help people with their taxes. Some of these are quite useful.
Last week the agency released "Ten Tax Tips for Individuals Selling Their Home," (IRS Summertime Tax Tip 2011-15).
As a real estate agent or broker, it is not your job to give home sellers tax advice. Indeed, it is advisable not to, since you could end up getting sued if you give wrong advice.
Instead, refer sellers to this list of IRS tips. It's a good starting place for them to begin … (0 comments)

3 money lessons from US credit downgrade - 08/17/11 07:18 PM
Mood of the Market
By Tara-Nicholle NelsonInman News™
Americans waited with bated breath on our congressional leadership to resolve the debt ceiling crisis. At the 11th hour, a deal was struck to cut spending and raise the nation's debt ceiling, avoiding the potential that the U.S. would default on at least some of its obligations. But the deal didn't provide new tax revenue, and the spending cuts it identified fell short of what analysts with the ratings agency Standard & Poor's thought was needed for the country to begin getting a handle on the national debt. On Aug. 5, Standard & … (0 comments)

Transformation starts with ourselves. - 08/07/11 08:08 AM

Words have no power if you don’t back them up with action. You can talk until you’re blue in the face about things that are wrong with the world, your work, your family, your friends or your current life; but neither makes a meaningful difference if you don’t do something about the way you feel.
It’s easy to say someone should do it, but if everyone says that, it never gets done. It’s easy to say you’ll do it someday–but someday has a way of becoming never.
You are someone, and today is someday. How can you transform the world … (5 comments)
