May 30, 2013 The City of Coquitlam announced Wednesday it is closing the Coquitlam River Park in response to repeated cougar sightings and interactions with homes in the area in the neighborhood of River Springs, located at the North end of Shaughnessy street. The animal(s) "exhibiting behaviours that indicate it might not be afraid of people," according to a Coquitlam City press release. It has clearly been in backyards and sighted by many River Springs residents as the accompanying picture of the animal demonstrates.
