shelley rowton: A Belated Look at My Awesome Office Birthday Celebration! - 11/06/10 03:01 PM
In my earlier blog tonight, I explained how busy I've been in October. Maybe the best part of it was my birthday! Since I have the best work friends ever, we celebrated with HUGE porterhouse steaks (thanks Craig Cherico!), baked potatoes, salad and CAKE. We don't mess around when it comes to meat!

It was a beautiful day, so my sidekick Heide came along and we dined out on the patio under the oak trees.

To top off a great day, my office buddy Jamee Yule surprised me with a gift certificate to the Lake Austin Spa & … (6 comments)

shelley rowton: I Know What I'm Doing with the Extra Hour Tonight! My Top 10 Suggestions - 11/06/10 02:42 PM
So we're all atwitter about the extra hour we get tonight. Many have asked what we'll do with it, so I thought I'd take the guesswork out of it for you and make some suggestions. Here ya go:
Take the dog, and yourself, for a walk. Look at the stars and enjoy the stillness while you're out there. The old standby - change out the batteries on your smoke detectors, etc. Sleep an extra hour. We're a pretty sleep deprived society, so you can't go wrong with this one. Call someone you love that you don't regularly talk to very … (8 comments)

shelley rowton: October - Full of Government Affairs, City Council Visits, Election Preparation and More! - 11/06/10 02:21 PM
Well, I've been away for a while, but not because I was goofing off - I have been immersed in learning my new role as Chair of the Austin Board of REALTORS Government Affairs Committee. I'm not sure how I found myself in this position, but I'm so glad I did.
I've been attending and leading meetings, planning for the upcoming year, and attending several training sessions and more. We even made visits to most of the Austin City Council Members to discuss current issues relevant to REALTORS in Austin with as many as 40 REALTORS at times. These issues included … (2 comments)

shelley rowton: Today in My Texas Garden - Beautiful Blooms and Budding Beans - 09/11/10 12:20 PM
Today, September 11th, seems like a day to both remember the past and look towards the future, and I love to do that in my garden. My garden is made up mostly of plants that were propagated from other plants, both my own and my loved ones. There are years and years of gardening love in the yard, reminding me of the past. Then there are the sweet little sprouts of newness that can be seen all around - new blooms, new vegetable plants, new herbs. Take a look at what today held for me in my Texas garden!

shelley rowton: Today in My Texas Garden - Texas Native Perennials on Labor Day 2010 - 09/06/10 12:29 PM
I avoided laboring as long as I could today, but I'll keep it light so maybe it won't count against me! Here are a few pictures from my garden, which is dominated by Texas native perennials. From the beautiful Texas Rock Rose to the fast spreading Salvia, all of the natives seem to have an explosion of color waiting for me every morning!

When I moved this Texas Rock Rose to it's new home in the sun, the blooms became a much deeper shade of pink than they had been before.

shelley rowton: Imagine Austin - Get a Plan! - 05/23/10 03:14 PM
Austin has growing by leaps and bounds for years, and projections say that we will add another 300,000 jobs and 750,000 residents by the year 2039.  But the current comprehensive plan (Austin Tomorrow) was implemented in 1979 and has had only minor revisions through the years.  It is woefully outdated, and therefore the City of Austin is currently working to assemble a new comprehensive plan with the help of it's citizens.
There have already been several opportunities for involvement.  If you want to participate in the current phase - Meeting-in-a-Box #2 - click here.  Anyone who plans on being in Austin in … (6 comments)
