family: Thankful Thursday, 11/14/13 - 11/14/13 07:42 AM
It's always possible, even in the darkest of times, to be thankful for something.  My mom is suffering from liver cancer.  She's been on hospice for a few months but was very adamant that she would stay at her apartment and not come to live with either my sister or me.  Driving back and forth in between work and her home whenever I could was hard but it was harder still to be worrying all of the time.
She started being unsteady on her feet, and after the 3rd fall, the hospice nurses said no more.  She needed to move in with … (6 comments)

family: Yes sir, that's my baby! - 10/09/11 12:36 PM

Yes sir, that broad shouldered, 5' 11" number 15 is my young son.  15 years old and one of the lights of my life.  Yes sir, that's my baby!
We had a great weekend of travel soccer in picture perfect weather.  Life is good.  Wishing you all a wonderful week.

I love to watch my younger son play soccer.  He's a pretty good center striker and when he starts running toward the goalie, I swear I can see the poor kid flinch, because there is no way he's stopping the ball.  It doesn't usually happen more than once or twice a game, sometimes not at all, but when it does, man... it's exciting!

For reasons that I really don't understand, as good as Max is, he does not want to play on the school team.  He says he wants to concentrate on his school work.  I can't help but think … (16 comments)

family: Clients often become friends and family - 06/14/11 06:51 AM
I had the pleasure of working with a retired couple a few years ago.  I first met them when they called me to see one of my listings and we hit it off immediately.  They are about my mom's age and I am very attached to them.  I listed their home in East Goshen and sold them a home in an over 55 community.  I stop by to see them periodically and call to say hi, and they often call me to see how I'm doing.
Their son just had open heart surgery.  They called to tell me about it and … (21 comments)

family: Thankful Thursday, 8/26/10, Brotherly Love - 08/26/10 01:11 AM
The end of summer.  The start of a new school year for my college boy and his middle school brother.  My two sons.  We had a wonderful summer, although it felt way too short.  This year, my sons became friends.  With a 7 year age span, you wouldn't think there would be anything to fight about, but over the years, they fought. Two very different boys, with wildly different personalities and interests.  Mike was always into Lego's, Connects, computer games.  When he needed to be punished, I sent him outside to play!  Max is a man of action and was into … (36 comments)

family: Thankful Thursday, 6/17/10 - A Reunion! - 06/17/10 01:47 AM
My dad was one of 10 children.  I'm thinking he was somewhat in the middle of the pack.  This past weekend, my home was the venue for the Carlini Cousins Family Reunion.  And it all started with Facebook!
I am in touch with only a few folks from my father's side of the family.  We send Christmas cards, I see them at weddings and of course, funerals.  I love them dearly, but most of them live near the Jersey shore, so I just do not see them all that much.  Some are on Facebook and it's been fun keeping up with … (21 comments)

family: Thankful Thursday, A special moment revisited - 01/14/10 12:17 AM
A while ago I posted this picture of me and my son Mike (bottom left), my two nephews Alex and Charles (top left), my darling niece Elena and my adopted nephew Matthew.  It's Christmas Day and I am 3 months pregnant in this picture with my lovely son Max.

My sister-in-law Mary Anne and I alternate Christmas day dinner.  It was my turn this year and having posted the above picture on facebook this year, it was on my mind.  Alex, the nephew on the right, used it as his profile picture for a short time and Mike … (32 comments)

family: Not so Wordless Wednesday, the Week before Christmas - 12/15/09 11:01 PM
This is my little JJ.
The sweatshirt he is wearing actually says Baby's First Christmas.  Michael first wore this sweatshirt 20 years ago, the same year I bought two adult sizes and we all dressed alike. I was 30 then and I honestly don't know where the years went!
I saved this little sweatshirt through the next 7 years in the hopes I would have another child and after two miscarriages, Max wore it on his first Christmas 13 years ago.
After that, knowing that the baby factory was closed, I put it on one of my Christmas bears, where … (29 comments)

family: A Mother/Son Song at the Wedding - 07/29/08 02:44 PM
Many years ago, well about 18 and a half years ago, I went to a wedding.  A guy 5 years younger than I was getting married and he was dancing with his mother.  I was just over at my wonderful friend Gary Woltal's blog and he posted a song by Bette Midler called "The Wind Beneath My Wings".  http://activerain.com/blogsview/615344/Heroes-Are-Right-In
Listening to the song reminded me of that wedding so many years ago.
The groom, Steven, was dancing with his mother to "The Wind Beneath My Wings".   I was crying.  If you know me at all, you know that a common theme for … (39 comments)

family: Change, A good thing? I'm not so sure. - 05/17/08 03:14 AM
This is a year of changes for me.  It's a year of beginnings, a year of endings.  Top of the list of changes that are occurring in my life is my first born is graduating high school and this summer, will leave me for the first time to go to college.   Is this the little boy I carried?

My son Mike is a wonderful kid.  He's smart, he's funny, he's handsome, he's great on the computer and he's an artist.  I'm very proud of him and I am so happy for him.  But, I will miss him more than I … (30 comments)
