It is against the law in NJ for an agent to give back a portion of commisssion or to purchase an expensive closing gift for any client. Are you are looking for a buyer's agent to "add value" with knowledge and expertise or just money back to you? A valuable agent will get you the best possible price through negotiation and wise buying strategies which can save you money in the purchase price or financing. You may find an agent to give you back commission (if it were allowable) that is inexperienced and cost you more than 1% in the long run. Good luck to you.
