Where Do You Blog?

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Moline Realty 40022101

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who blogs on multiple sites.

I blog first and foremost on AR, because I love the results I get with the search engines and the comments and feedback I get from those of you who do read it.

Then I take the blog and post it on MySpace. By posting it on MySpace, it automatically feeds to my FaceBook Notes.

Then I copy it and post it on my other blog on Blogger.

So today I'm sitting here wondering "is this worth all this work?"

Has anyone had any luck blogging elsewhere? I'm linking to myself everywhere, so it should help in the search engines, but I don't find my Blogger blog anywhere on the searches, much less my MySpace blog.

Any tips, recommendations, or ideas? Am I wasting my time, or am I doing all the right things? Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the help!

My Myspace blog is a little different than this one, and my blogger one pretty closely follows my myspace blog.

This is the first I've heard of fine for duplicate blogs.  Can anyone explain further???  I'm afraid if I just link, I'm going to lose a bunch of my readers.

You might want to google "duplicate content".

When I launched my new website: www.ricardobueno.com

I simply emailed all of my close contacts alerting them to my new site address and asked for their feedback. That produced some good traffic and I even had one person fill out a mini-application and a few others sign up for my monthly newsletter. Not bad for just sending out emails and asking for feedback!

Anyway, as for blogs, I just launched my two new sites:

www.mortgagecafe.blogspot.com

www.equitygrowth.blogspot.com

If and when I get better at blogging I'll create my own site. But for now these will do! So what do you think? Are they ok? Or am I in some serious trouble?

I blog on a RealTownBlogs.com I blog on a WordPress.org blog and I blog on Active Rain occasionally.  I have got business from it.  I don't duplicate content, I would be concerned about duplicating content.

I don't know how content on MySpace.com or Facebook affects the search engines but  I would not duplicate what you are doing on your Blogger blog on ActiveRain.

I am trying to learn to use teasers in ActiveRain for entries on my other blogs.   There is a group called "My other blog is..." for those of us who are polyblogular.

Chris - Thanks!  I will check it out!

Ricardo - Hopefully now that I'm back in the office I can sit down and look at them!

Maureen - I'm not so sure that my Blogger blog is worth it, then, because I only have so much time in the day.... and too many blogs to keep up on.  Perhaps I'll have to narrow it down a little.  Thanks for the input!

Connie - I haven't tried Typepad... do you like it?

I just Googled "duplicate content", and I find that this applies the most to my situation -

Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, make sure they include a link back to the original article on each syndicated article. Even with that, note that we'll always show the (unblocked) version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer.

I'm not seeing my Blogger blog when I do most of my google searches, which is fine with me, but I think I will start back-linking my blogs that I paste elsewhere.  :)

It also doesn't sound like the penalize a lot, and not so much for blogs.  This is what Google's article says

What is duplicate content?
Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Most of the time when we see this, it's unintentional or at least not malicious in origin: forums that generate both regular and stripped-down mobile-targeted pages, store items shown (and -- worse yet -- linked) via multiple distinct URLs, and so on. In some cases, content is duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or garner more traffic via popular or long-tail queries.

What isn't duplicate content?
Though we do offer
a handy translation utility, our algorithms won't view the same article written in English and Spanish as duplicate content. Similarly, you shouldn't worry about occasional snippets (quotes and otherwise) being flagged as duplicate content.

Why does Google care about duplicate content?
Our users typically want to see a diverse cross-section of unique content when they do searches. In contrast, they're understandably annoyed when they see substantially the same content within a set of search results. Also, webmasters become sad when we show a complex URL (example.com/contentredir?value=shorty-george⟨=en) instead of the pretty URL they prefer (example.com/en/shorty-george.htm).

What does Google do about it?
During our crawling and when serving search results, we try hard to index and show pages with distinct information. This filtering means, for instance, that if your site has articles in "regular" and "printer" versions and neither set is blocked in robots.txt or via a noindex meta tag, we'll choose one version to list. In the rare cases in which we perceive that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. However, we prefer to focus on filtering rather than ranking adjustments ... so in the vast majority of cases, the worst thing that'll befall webmasters is to see the "less desired" version of a page shown in our index.

I thought I'd share my newfound information with you!

Duplicate content is probably killing you. If you write one article and post it to three places, you're not helping yourself. You'd be better off posting it in one place. Fact of the matter is, the search engines want original content. Not duplicate content. Copying and pasting information from other sites won't help you either.

When you are writing your article, make sure to focus on keywords. If you want people to find you for "Widgets", you need to use the keyword widgets, often. Keywords help the search engines know what your article is about. Also, bolding your keywords will help as well.

But you have to learn to write for the search engines, without over-using your keywords so your human readers lose interest. It's a delicate balance.

Here is an article called "Writing for the Search Engines." Hope this helps!

Joslyn - I've wondered whether or not it is worth blogging on other sites myself.  I just don't know if I'd get the same response I get here on AR - may try it just to see.  Thanks for asking the question, reading the other comments was helpful.

Joddie - I really haven't had a whole lot.  I use MyBlogLog to track my MySpace blog, and I'm not really getting any hits compared to here.  And I can't figure out how to get the widget on my blogger blog... anyone know?  It just does not seem to work whenever I try to add it!  So I don't know what I'm getting there, but I do know that AR sure is getting a lot of hits for me!  Thanks for stopping by!
