The other night one of our local builders hosted a dinner party for a small group of local Brokers and Agents. Bill and I were included and it was quite an event. The wine was flowing and the food was excellent. They wanted to thank us for bringing our Buyer Clients to see the community and keep us informed about their progress.
It's always interesting to network with other agents and compare notes on how business is going. We sat with a broker who has been in the busines here for a very long time. We talked about working with buyers and her comment kind of got under my skin.
"You have to be a Listing Agent to make any money going forward", she commented. "I let all those Buyer Agents do the work and sell my listings!"
I understand that the real estate industry is based on listing properties for sale, but some of us truly enjoy working with buyers. I am not one of the either/or agents, but I am an Accredited Buyer Representative. I do have listings but I probably represent twice as many buyers as sellers and I am not averse to working hard for my clients - Buyers or Sellers!
There is nothing easy these days. One of my listings should have settled last Friday, but the buyer's mortgage company fell down on the job and the loan officer kept pointing fingers everywhere but where they belonged - on her desk. I guess she wishes the good old days were back too.
In the new days of real estate, I look forward to working with agents who enjoy the business and the hard work that goes into a successful transaction. For those who are sitting by the phone waiting for the good old days to return? Make yourself comfortable; it's going to be a long wait.
