Forbes Magazine Says Florida Has 2 of the Top 10 Cities

Forbes magazine has come out with their list of the top 10 small tpwns to live in the US.  These towns have less than 100.000 residents. The survey included towns that are favorable to running a business, that have educated employees, favorable salary levels, beautiful landmarks, and great cultural opportunities as well as favorable restaurants.

The list is as follows:

1.  Boulder, Colorado

2.  Doral, Florida

3.  Fairfax, Virginia

4.  Mountain View, California

5.  Cupertino, California

6.  Newton, Massachusetts

7.  Columbia, Maryland

8.  Rockville, Maryland

9   Coral Gables, Florida

10. Foster City, California

It's interesting that 3 states had more than one town included in the list.

Sandy, I am sure Florida earns those 2 out of the top 10 spots but I wonder if Forbes visits every small town across the country before it makes its ranking. How many small towns are there? 350,000? I've always wondered...

Sandy, that's a real honor for those two towns. What's funny about all these lists is they keep changing and get jumbled up again each year.

Sandy,

Florida is a great state, and I always enjoy being there.  I have spent much time in Ocala and just love that city.

Hi Sandy, Interesting list - I can't really comment on the others as I have only been to Boulder - but good for Florida to have 2 on the list! Reports like this always perk up the economy and population in those towns.

Its not hard to believe that Florida and California dominate this list.  Whenever you ask people where they wanna live they say Cali or Florida almost always.

Interesting list Sandy- are you familiar with any of these towns? What's your opinion?

Some of these are suburbs of major metropolotian areas. I wonder iof that had any effect on the ratings??

I agree with Justin- lot's of people want to live in Florida and California. I think that trend will continue for a long time (overall!).

Peace,

Todd

Sandy, great photo, love the gold tones! No surprise that there were no "rust belt" towns on the list! Everyone wants to live on the coasts! What about the north coast?? Hahahahaha! Portage Lakes, Ohio has 37 miles of shoreline!

I understand why people move to smaller communities....more peace and quiet.

Paul, Great question. Who goes out and looks at every small town?  I think they don't.

Gary, Yes, I know that you're right. These lists do get changed and jumbled around each year. Like Paul indicated, I wonder how they really pick them.

Richard, There are so many great cities and towns in Florida. Ocala really is a great place!

Hey Miss Mary, So did they do well in putting Boulder at the top of the list.  I have never been to Colorado.

Hi Justin, I have heard that also.  But, funny, often people that are here can't tolerate the heat and humidity in the summertime. The grass is always greener, isn't it?

Hi Todd, I have to concur that people will always want to live on the coast. It's so beautiful.

Hi Lou, Thank you. It was an absolutely beautiful sunset here in Melbourne Beach Florida on the Indian River Lagoon.

Hi Caren, I suppose that you are right...everyone does want to live along the coasts.  I don't know how they missed Portage Lakes, Ohio. You have certainly shown us some exceptional pictures that should have gotten it on the list somewhere.

Hi TOTO, Peace and quiet are certainly great reasons to move away from the hustle and bustle.

Hi Sandy, With that criteria I think they did well! I was actually surprised about them being under 100,000 ---?? I wonder if they include the University of Colorado in that number?

Hi SS,

Great list!

Boulder is a place I have thought would be nice to live in.

Can't be like Denver with it's elevation sickness...ugh!

Hey Mary, Thanks for the kudo on the picture. We live in such a beautiful area, that we're fortunate to get great photos. I don't know if they included the University of Colorado in those stats.
