How Is Your Real Estate Soup?

Me and my wife were invitated to a friend's birthday party. He and his wife live in New York and they have a vacation home here in Florida, and come pretty often. His wife is a dentist, and he is running the office. They make their schedule so that they can jump in a car and be here in 17 hours. They now have more reasons to come as their only grandson is right here in Daytona. A very serious 7-month old boy is the love of their lives. He also was with their parents at the party.

They chose Inlet Harbour Restaurant in Ponce Inlet, the town where we live, so all we needed was to leave the office earlier than we usually do.

Inlet Harbor restaurant is hugely popular. I have been there several times before, found food there decent, though never fell in love with it, but liked the setting. Always crowded, live music, and a fun Caribbean atmosphere. It is a large place with terrific outdoors right on the Intracoastal, with gorgeous vistas.

Real Estate SoupTuesday was the first day after a long Memorial Day weekend. On the way to the restaurant the skies got loose, and it was pouring. If there were those thinking of going to the restaurant, the weather stopped many of them. I never saw that few people there, but I usually do not go there on Tuesdays, especially after a long weekend.

The food was surprisingly not good and not to order. Wrong pasta, strange tasting fish, spicy stuff when specifically asked for not spicy, etc. Out of 6 orders two had to be returned (not mine, I am like a bear, can eat anything and everything). The replacements were edible, but not great. There were apologies, and we still enjoyed the company of each other, enjoyed the atmosphere, and this did not ruin the party.

I knew what happened. It was after a long weekend, they knew that this would be a very slow day and they gave the day off to the chef and sous chef, and left one of line cooks to do the magic, which he did with the best of his/her abilities. We just happened to be at the wrong time.

Consistency is so difficult too maintain. Everyone who is familiar with the restaurnat business knows that. But do we have consistency in our real rstate business? If someone calls your office, would it be the same no matter who answers the phone? Would it be the same whether you take the clients to show homes or any other agent in you office? In school they say that the class performs as fast as the slowest student. Is the same fair for a real estate company? How high is the bar?

Consistency is so difficult in restaurant business. It is also very difficult to achieve in Real Estate.
