downtown disney.... retail space for rent?

Last month while in Los Angeles, Mark Cooper made a quick trip to downtown disney. (the recent addition to disneyland that includes resturants, shops, and street venders, WITHOUT RIDES). A nice feature of downtown disney is the free parking and the lack of admission charge. Mark Cooper's goal was "Build-a-Bear", with the intention of picking up a gift certificate for a kids birthday party.

While strolling down the street, Mark was surprised to find many signs that said "coming soon, an exciting new addition to downtown disney". Read between the lines, even DISNEYLAND has vacant retail space right now. Thats right, its not just commercial real estate in San Francisco, KW Commercial sees things are tough all over and retail, even in downtown disney is hurting.

this amusement park story sums it up, FOUR stores shut their doors in downtown disney!

WOW that certainly is a sign of the times. I bet they want an arm and a leg for space there . . . but I also bet it's negotiable . . .  :)

In my area businesses are seeing the kind of offers on space that you would normally see in residential rentals . . . free months, installment payments on deposits (!) . . . stuff that wouldn't protect a building owner in the least. Sigh . . .

Our Downtown Disney is a common get together spot to meet friends because there is free parking and no entrance fee.  You can kill time in a good way before you go to your destination or afterwards.  I particularly like the chocolate covered apples shop-they can slice them into quarters for you.  THe trinket stores can be a riot with many joke items.  The museum type store with pop culture items is fun and is like Hard Rock Cafe.  The LEGO store is fun because they have life size and larger than life creations and kids have a play area.  I've always enjoyed lego's.  The founder of Amazon would love it as he and his wife are legomaniacs.

Retailers should be weary.  There used to be a really cute tween store called Lucy Liu in Downtown Disney.  That store has been replaced with a Disney Company operated store, which is just like Lucy Liu.  Lucy Liu was always busy.  I think Disney took over the idea and made the store their own.

just an update on the Libby Lue comment from last year.  Sadly all of the Libby lue's went out of bussiness, and that meant they all had to go away no matter how busy they were. I was just at the Disney version of this store and while it doesn't offer as much as Libby Lue did it is still really cute and you can tell the children love the entire makeover process. plus, their prices are a lot lower then Libby Lue was and they don't require a deposit when you make your reservation! =)

Any idea on how to rent a kiosk at Disney? I have an amazing, warm, gluten free, all natural and totally decadent Chocolate Souffle that I would like to sell at Downtown Disney. Thank you in advance if you have a contact.

Interested to operate asian food stall. Does disney rent out a small space for food stall inside the park? If so, what are the requirements? And the leasing arrangements. Thank you. My email donatilasanjuan@msn.com.
