Top 10 Social Networks for Entrepreneurs

Are you looking at your real estate career as a business? We all should, right?  That's one reason why we as the CEO, secretary, CFO and president of our business should be looking for ways to expose our business and services to the public.

In our field, networking is a powerful way to get exposure to potential clients as well as other professional service providers related to our industry.  It is very important to be associated with local groups and organizations, attend their meetings, participate in activities and take full advantage of networking opportunities at all times.

We have to understand that its also very important to carefully chose the groups and/or organizations that we plan to join... why? We have to consider the role of that group, who their members are and objectives of the organization.  Personally, I think this is very important to find out because that way we would have an idea of the quality of people we will be meeting and hence the probabilities of getting a sale either directly or indirectly(referral) as a result of that association.

By the same token, when it comes to "social networking", it should be no different (in my opinion) when it comes to which network we should join.  In regard to this issue, Dan Schawbel author of "Me 2.0: Build a Powerful Brand to Achieve Career Success" wrote an article about the best 10 social networks for entrepreneurs.  Now, let me clarify this again, this is related to "entrepreneurs", that's you and me right? If your interests are in fishing, sports or anything else... there should be "another" group of 10 best networks for that category somewhere else.

Make sure you peruse around this fantastic site since they have other great articles business related that have tons of helpful information...

I honestly wish the flurry of new sites would slow down.  I no sooner joined FaceBook than LinkedIn came up.  Then Twitter was the thing.  Few of us have the time to contribute to multiple sites, especially without duplicating content.

I'm going to try to be a solid contributor on a few sites.  It's not my goal to be on all of them.

Thanks for your comments,

Eric:I agree with you, in fact I read in a book(don't remember the title) that was about marketing your business and it said that the most commissions usually don't go to the "best" or more knowledgeable agent, but to the one with the most and "best" marketing.

Gene: Thank you for your compliment, I appreciate it.

Brian: You are right! and I on your side, there are too many sites coming up almost by the minute so what I do is use a few of them and the rest just ignore, unless they become popular(like in the case of twitter).  I currently just use FB, twitter and Linkedin.

I do visit others just for information and ideas.  One thing that I did was to check name availability and use a name that was available in most of the sites, that way I use the same name everywhere and avoid confusion.  If you want to check name availability, visit this site: www.NameChk.com

Lanre:Yeah, I was surprised as well! Perhaps they don't consider twitter to be a good vehicle or option to promote an enterprise since that was the focal point.

Norma: LOL! you reminded me of a two hour class session I took while attending college(a few moons ago lol).  This class was about "how to take tests", one of the things the instructor kept saying was "read questions carefully, often the answer to the question is in the question itself".

So, the answer to your question is in your question! You want to keep up to date on 20+ sites, hire a social networking secretary! LOL

I only use 3 sites, that's all.  There is a desktop application that actually combines twitter and facebook so you basically only post once and it will sync to both, I just have to post to Linkedin separate.  If you would like to have this desktop application visit: www.Seesmic.com  its free!

I' ve been having a problem limiting who I connect with as I don't want to be associated with those that are not great agents in this business. YET, a lot of the type you are taking names and spending way too much time researching people.

Remember part of being connected with social marketing is staying connected and blogging. I noticed you haven't done that in a couple months, so I thought I would give you a little nudge.

Thanks so much Todd, I did need that little nudge lol!  I have been taken away the last few weeks, the reason being that I have been working on setting up a marketing division in our company.

By the way, I would like you to take a look at our newly built website and certaily I would love to have your feedback on it. Here is a link please let me hear your opinion on its content.

I'm part owner on this company, so if you need some of the products, give me a call for a "secret handshake" special pricing, yeah! even better than what we have advertised on the site.

Looking forward to hear from you,

Martin

WOW! Those are some amazing prices! I did notice the links on the right hand side weren't working, but other than that, I would say I have a new place that I'll be ordering my business cards from! Can we design our own business cards for that price or do we have to choose from pre-stock?
