Father's Day Open House on Elkhorn Creek

Sunday I'll be hosting an open house at one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.  From 2 to 4 I'll welcome guests to 7 Justice Lane in Frankfort, KY with chocolate chip cookies and an assortment of coffees and teas. The house was built in the early 70's and has had little done to it since then, but it's charm is still strong and with a little effort it could once again be a showplace.  The house is only part of the pull.

Directly out the back is a spot that hasn't changed since Daniel Boone walked the state.  Elkhorn Creek has tremendous fishing, and gorgeous rapids...and it's all at the back door of the house at  7 Justice Lane.  Since seeing this house for the first time, I've frankly fallen in love.  It's not so much with the house itself, although it has a lot of potential.  I've fallen in love with this spot on Elkhorn Creek.

Sunday is Father's Day, the first since I lost my dad last summer.  I thought about going to the cemetery, but it didn't seem like something he'd be too excited about, so I hesitated.  I'm glad I did, because I've found the perfect way to salute him. Daddy and I were fishing buddies and I can think of no better way to honor him than by going fishing.  It's time I put a line in the water.

So Sunday, after the open house is done, I'll step out the back door and go fishing with my dad.

Every room on this side of the house has windows facing the creek.

No opportunity for a beautiful view has been missed.

Your description makes me want to live there.  It looks very nice.  However, what about the chance of flooding?  Is that a problem?

The worse flood in memory (last 75 years or so anyway) was in 1997 and the water did not reach the house.  The owner's daughter was staying there at the time and didn't even leave home.  So, I would not be concerned with flooding at all.

The stained look on the cedar is just where the 4 foot eaves have protected the largest part of the outside walls and the bottom parts have had more sun and weather damage.  The color difference should be fixed soon...looks like they're going to stain the outside so it all matches.

All in all it's a remarkable house, sitting in a fabulous place.  I'd love to slip in a "realtor gets to fish here anytime she wants" clause somewhere in the purchase contract.
