Tonight marked the first ever meeting between Cambridge Lutheran Team #1 and Cambridge Lutheran Team #2 in softball action. Both teams came into the game tied for 2nd place in the league with a 5-2 record. So a lot was riding on this mid season battle!
Team #2 lead early by a score of 5-3 with some solid hitting through 2 innings. Team #1 finally tookk the lead in the top of the 4th inning by plating 5 runs and lead 10-6 after that frame.
The game was still at 13-9 through 6 innings partly because I forgot how to field the ball this week. However, a 7 run top of the 7th inning for team #1 broke the game open. Five walks and some timely hitting were the key. The final score 20-9, Team #1 a winner!
Rob Whiteford pitched what was probably his best game of the year and also led the hitting attack by going 4 of 5 with 6 RBI and an inside the park HR. Yours truly was also 4 of 5 with 4 runs scored. Rob Willits chipped in with a 3 of 4 night and a rare walk.
Next week we play the only winless team in the league, River of Life, at the High School. Josh Norby will set the lineup this week and will be taking suggestions for that on his facebook page.
