No More Recreational Vehicles to be Parked in Site

Starting JULY 1, the new ordinance for Recreational Vehicles will finally take effect.  This ordinance has tried to come into effect for a couple of years now, and people keep fighting it.  There are going to be no more fights, and you will start to be fined if you don't obey.

Basically, the city of Richardson is tired of parked campers and RVs and boats on the streets and in front driveways.  This makes the streets look terrible, and when you're trying to sell a house and the neighbor's house looks like trash, it hinders the sale.

The ordinance applies to all RV's, trailers, boats, jet skis, truck campers, and similar items.  You cannot park in the front of the house or in the front side yard.  You may park in the rear side yard or in the rear yard as long as they are screened off out of view by a minimum of 6 feet of wooden fence, no wire, chain link fence.  Also, instead of a wooden fence, you could use shurbs on the approved list that start at least 3 feet high when planted, and will grow to about 6 feet.

There will also be warnings given to offenders before tickets are written.  You are allowed to park one of the items in view for loading and unloading for up to 3 days, but only 4 times a year.  And, you can't use all 4 occasions back to back.  Each occasion must be separated by at least 7 days.

Does this new ordinance effect you?  What do you think about it?  Will it make your streets look cleaner?  I know a lot of the boat storage places are going to get a lot more business because of this!

Wow I wonder if the RV storage places lobbied this!  While I live in an area with no CCR's I do get annoyed when someone parks in the street but if they park it in the driveway or sideyard I don't mind it.  Sorry, not in Richardson but JMHO!

I don't have an RV, but I certainly won't be moving to Richardson!  If I wanted to live in a gated community with a HOA, I would.  Don't expect cities to be that, though.

No parking of them in the street, fine.  No parking in your own driveway crosses the line, IMO.
