Quick Tip To Share - Ant Repellent AND IT'S GREEN!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with RED Properties NC #129285

I keep running across these tips for everyday household remedies so I thought I would share them!  My first was by necessity - Quick Tip To Share - Garbage Disposal Cleaner AND IT'S GREEN! and then Nevin Williams with First Priority Financial shared one that I thought was pretty cool - Quick Tip! His was all about getting dried on foods in microwaves "un stuck".  Nevin - if you read this you should make that a Public post!

So this one that I came across is for ants!  Summertime brings then out in droves!  If you have a problem with ants in the house try this one out!

EQUAL ARTIFICIAL SWEETNER!

If the Equal is dusted along a cabinet (or where the problem is persistent) it will end the ant problem quickly!  For some reason the Equal seems to repel the ants!  Now, this will most likely not work on the heavy duty MEAN ants but for your run of the mill household ants it should do the trick!

I hope you find this helpful!

Makes sense.  I mean ... Equal repels me! so it would make sense it would work on ants.  LOL

For the record ... if you have trouble with ants or roaches in cupboards ... you can use the peel of a cucumber laid along the back of the cupboard and they will NOT enter.  Not sure what property is in the cuke, but it works.  When the peel is dried ... pitch it outside for the birds.  No toxic stuff, no smell.

Cool Green tip. I wonder what it is in equal that makes ants not like it. That is another topic all together that would be interesting to find out.

LOL MEAN ANTS!  This is a great idea to share these tips with the public Leesa. Great use for Equal since I won't use artificial sweetners.  We all know I am sweet enough right??? Just kidding.

Leesa - interesting tip, and my wife will see this as another reason that aspartame is harmful. But so far I have been doing an ok job of keeping ants, mean or not, out of the house. Now, if I can just find something to keep them darn spiders out......

Leesa,

I'd love to know more about the history of this tip.  My research on Equal is that it is made via Methyl Ether (a process combining fatty acids and methanol and methanol is considered to be a toxic chemical) therefore Equal wouldn't be considered a green product.

Here's the line from wikipedia:

Methanol, also known as methyl alcoholcarbinolwood alcoholwood naphtha or wood spirits, is a toxic chemical

I'm very open to hearing opposing views.

All the best -

Laura - thanks for the information from your research!  Good to know that it is being touted as "Green" as apparently you have found otherwise.
