Thankful Thursday - A Spot of Yellow Before and After the Sunrise

By
Education & Training

This is part II of Good Morning from Red Lodge which I thought would be fitting for a Thankful Thursday post.

Notice this wild yellow flower I spotted prior to sunrise

Yellow flower - Photo taken just prior to sunrise

and then compare it to the sun itself after it came up from behind the Pryor mountains.

Sunrise over Red Lodge - July 23, 2009

The moral of the short story within this post.  No matter how difficult things may seem, you always have to look at the bright spot.  There is always a bright spot around you.  Sometimes you just need to try and look harder in order to find it.

I am thankful for the little and simple joys of life that are around us.  A bright smile on the face of family and friends, the affection of a beloved pet, the beautiful creations of Mother Nature are all things that instantly warm me up and that we should not take for granted.

My pastor often says, "Two guys were in prison. One looked out and saw the moon. One looked out and saw the mud." The thoughts and battle that goes on in our head is ultimately who we are and/or become.

Steve,

I like your pastor's quote.  Thanks for sharing it.   I agree that the our thoughts end up shaping who we are and/or become.

Konnie,

I am OK with stalking on AR.  I take it as a compliment.  :)   We share a common hobby although mine started as a little hobby and seems to get bigger and bigger each day.  Must have something to do with living in Big Sky country.  :)

Amazing photos! How did you get the flower to show up so well?

Kevin & Monica,

I took a couple of photos thinking that the first was too dark and that the second photo showed the flower well.  When I looked them on my computer, the flower was blurry on the second photo and the first photo was the one that actually turned out good (the one uploaded to thsi post).  I guess I was lucky with the automatic feature on my camera.  Taking pictures at sunrise and sunset are very tricky and even with the automatic setting, I usually have to take many pictures in order to get that one good one.  Thank you for the feedback.

Judy,

Thank you.  If you can believe it, that bright yellow color in the first photo was the inspiration behind this post.  Carpe diem.

Gerry, the first photo is simply stunning, I like the comparison to the sunrise also. I like the message to look for small things to be thankful for, and even in the dark - you found that beautiful flower. Great post today, Gerry!

Sustainability takes on many forms...and when you wrote, "  No matter how difficult things may seem, you always have to look at the bright spot.  There is always a bright spot around you.  Sometimes you just need to try and look harder in order to find it. I am thankful for the little and simple joys of life that are around us..." I was reminded of this...  THX
