My Favorite Rose -- Any Idea What This Is?

By

I have the most special hubby! A while ago, he brought home this gorgeous bouquet of roses ... just for me!

I love working in the garden and would be thrilled to grow a bush of these beauties. Yes, these are hothouse grown, I'm sure. (Of course here in Auburn, Washington we're definitely in a hot house at the moment!)

So ... have you ever seen a bush like this? Of course, if I can find this, then hubby wouldn't be on the hook to bring them home to me now and then! Hmmmm, this could be a problem ......

Absolutely gorgeous.  I have never seen this particular rose before ...  did you look online at Jackson Perkins catalog? The roses they grow are wonderful. (I used to live near an area that grew roses for Jackson Perkins in  Wasco, California,,  the scent driving thru the area was always incredible).

Gabrielle - Based on the picture without seeing the actual rose, it looks like Memphis Music, a mini-flora introduced in 2006.  Mini-Flora is smaller than hybrid tea but bigger than a miniature rose.

Melissa -- The whole vase was absolutely stunning and they really lasted a long time, too! Much better than the yellow ones I usually prefer!

Hannah -- Oh, your father must have been thrilled to grow these! And talented too, I bet! What a wonderful memory.

Gail: Oh! Of course I need to go to Jackson & Perkins! Why didn't I think of that!!!! Wow, living near them must've been amazing! I love roses, but I'm not always real good at growing them. I think it's too wet here much of the time and I'm always battling black spot or something. But the results are soooo worth it!

Rosalinda: Memphis Music! I'm off to check it out! These were pretty close to the size of a tea rose. Long single stems too. Maybe I'll have to have one of those (I'm such an easy sell at any nursery! Gotta have one of each .... it's a problem ... but a really wonderful one!)

Leslie: You have a purple one!!!! OH Oh! I have to find that too ...

Gabrielle,

Maybe a peppermint rose (just made that up) - very pretty flower - even without a name. :)

Judy: You know, these did have a very nice smell to them too! Unusual for a hot house rose! You have a great weekend too! Hope it's cooler around here ...

Steve: That works for me! Peppermint. There probably is a rose by that name, whaddya wanna bet?

It's what we call a "modern rose." That one could be any of several ones. Because the patterns can vary widely, I'd have to look at all of the roses on the bush to make a good determination. Here are some possibilities, though:

  1. Ambossfunken
  2. Broceliande
  3. Candy Stripe
  4. Claude Monet
  5. Henri Matisse
  6. Paul Gaugin

Based just on your pictures, I'd guess the "Paul Gaugin" or "Henri Matisse" rose.

Dallis, one of the best places for roses is Jackson & Perkins. I'm betting if you check out their site you might find the Abracadabra rose!
