STOLEN -- MY 2 BEST FRIENDS WERE STOLEN!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with RETIRED

You know how when you are running errands that have to be finished by the end of the day -- there's a deadline tomorrow.  You're thinking about how your day went, what calls you need to still make and getting the errands run so you can get home, change into comfortable clothes, eat dinner and have some time to spend on Active Rain.

Well, that's what I was doing yesterday.  I needed supplies to put together some gift baskets for our company charity golf tournament tomorrow.  Parked the car, went into my favorite craft store -- ahhh, found what I needed but of course since I was there I may as well as look around and see what other treasures I might find, so it wasn't the "quick" trip I had planned on.  Paid for my purchases and went out to my car, put the bags in the trunk and got in the car and headed for home.  I didn't even realize that my 2 very best friends weren't waiting for me in the car!  My companion and I were talking about business and the golf tournament and our weekend plans.

This morning I had an early appointment.  Still, I didn't give my friends a second thought . . . until after the appointment.  All of a sudden I realized something was wrong there was something missing!  Where's "GG"?  I looked all over my car for her, she was no where to be found -- popped the trunk, why would she be in the trunk, I didn't put her there!  She was gone -- stolen out of my car!  Oh, well, I would get the last laugh, she doesn't work without her remote control . . . pulled over into a parking lot, I know it's here, "GG" navigated me to yesterday's early morning appointment so I know her remote control is right heeeere -- no, it wasn't!  Hmmm, I guess the thieves knew what they were looking for.  I continue on to my next appointment -- suddenly, I remember, OMG! HP was here in the car too!!!  No, they didn't -- they took HP too!  Pulled over again, what else did they take, opened the console to see, hmmm, Floyd Wickman CD's are still there -- guess they weren't interested in being a "Sweat Hog".  Emergency house key, yes, it's there, hmmm, there was a new tin of Altoids in there -- they're gone and the pepper spray another real estate friend had given me -- just in case -- yep, it's gone too.

This afternoon, I went out and replaced my dear friends . . . not the Altoids and Pepper Spray - eventually, I will but not today.  I replaced my dear "GG" with a newer model, she's easier to read and program and has Bluetooth and will play MP3 files - yes, a new, improved model.  Also replaced HP - I was thinking about replacing HP anyway and was going to give the older model to a friend's granddaughter who wanted a digital camera.  The old HP takes great photos and has a new 1G memory card - he might need some new batteries but replace them and he's good as new - just a little larger and heavier than the newer models and the newer models can do a lot more than he could.  Yes, I'm going to miss my old friends but I will get to know my new friends and enjoy the trips and memories we create together."GG" was with me for almost 3 years and navigated me and my clients around San Antonio, New Braunfels, Bexar, Kendall, Comal and Guadalupe Counties.  And dear HP, has been helping me record personal memories as well as photographing clients homes for 7 years!

Cindy, it is sad that there are people to seem to think it's ok to help themselves to whatever they want.  I have always been so careful about where I parked and made sure any valuables were out of sight.  I forgot to move the GPS from the dashboard to under the seat and someone decided they wanted it.  Of course, once they popped the lock, they found the camera and other items and took them too.

If the world were only a better place... I'm sorry that it happened, but getting something new is always great - just sucks when you weren't planning on upgrading!

Leigh,  I agree.  I was planning to upgrade the camera this year but was waiting until next year to upgrade the GPS. I'm enjoying both the new camera and GPS.  Of course, I hadn't planned on replacing my Supra Key or the other items taken.

Thanks for stopping by.

Judi:  I was so relieved to learn it wasn't two pets that were stolen!  I kept thinking as I was reading your post that there was no way it would be two pets because your post was too calm for that.  I kept thinking about your sweet Zydeco.  The tools we use for in real estate are like our best friends, aren't they?  I'm sorry they were stolen.

Oh Donna, you're right I would have been in a panic if my sweet Zydeco were stolen!  In fact, he was in the backyard a couple weeks ago enjoying some sunshine and chasing butterflies and a hawk spotted him and decided to take him home for dinner.  My boyfriend heard the strange noise and stepped out into the yard from under the patio and the hawk was zooming down towards Zydeco -- when it saw Don, it suddenly changed directions.  I had that problem a couple of times last summer when he was still a tiny puppy but he's just not very big so he'd be easy for a large hawk to carry off.  : (

The cost of replacing the gps, supra key and other items were not in the budget for this year.  I had planned to replace camera and my laptop -- so, I'll replace the laptop next year.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Oh you poor thing and a near miss to your dog too. You've got me thinking about how I just lock my car and think nothing of it.

Debbie, I was shocked when I realized the items were missing from my car.  There was no sign that it had been broken into.  Then, another friend who had had her car broken into also, showed me on the drivers side lock where the theives had "popped" the lock.  Luckily I was able to replace the items but was really ready to buy a new laptop.  At lease they didn't damage the car or worse, steal it!!!  So all is well.

As far as Zydeco, he'll be fine, he doesn't go outside without someone with him.  My son tried to persuade him to go outside alone one day, opened the door, Zydie went out, my son closed the door and Zydie made a quick turn around and came back to the door and waited for my son to go out with him!  haha  We saw the hawks circling last summer when he was a puppy but figured he was too large for them this year -- apparently not.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi, Judi!  I don't know how I missed this post.  Sorry about your two good friends--what did you replace them with?  I have an HP which I carry in my purse whenever I'm out, but I don't have a GPS.  How do you like the new one?  What brand is it?  The same goes with the camera, what did you replace it with?  Are you happy with both?  Questions, questions!

I'm going to get a GPS but some say it's Garman, some Magellan, what did you end up buying?  I sent you an e-mail. :)

Hi Yolanda, I replaced my HP with another HP Camera and love it -- it's smaller and lighter than the original one.  I keep it in my purse most of the time.

The GPS that was stolen was a Garmin and I replaced it with another Garmin.  I love the new one better than the old one.  Took a little while to get used to the differences.  The new one has blue tooth capability.  It's nice, when I have the GPS working and my phone rings, I can answer it thru the GPS speaker.  I can check to see who's calling -- the caller id shows up on the screen of the GPS, so if I'm with clients I let the call go to voice mail and check my messages on the phone later.

Thanks for stopping by.   :)

Hi Judi   Just saw this post and panicked almost when I began to read it.  I was thinking it was your pets at first.  Glad you've got this all taken care of now.  Be very careful!  We all need too.  It can happen so quickly and that feeling of personal invasion takes a while to get over.  At least for me it did (twice I've been robbed)

Hi Carla, sorry, I missed your comments earlier.  Thanks for stopping by.  It did shake me up a bit when I realized that all of my gps, camera, supra key and other items had been stolen!  I've replaced them all with newer models and I'm very, very careful about making sure they are out of site or not left in my car now.

I love MiTierra too!!  One of my favorite restaurants downtown.  I hope you're son is doing well.  When was his surgery?

Yes, remind everyone that we do have to be careful with our gadgets -- seems gps' are a popular item to steal these days.  And yes, I do remember my ears burning sometime last week!!!  Now, I know who was talking about me. lol   : )

Ricki, I couldn't believe they had all been stolen at first.  I kept thinking when, where???  It was one of 3 places I was at that day.  Then, of course, I felt really dumb because I didn't notice they were missing earlier and kept thinking I'd left the car unlocked until someone showed me how they got in.

That's an awful feeling when you first realize you've been invaded and robbed.  Just glad it was something you could replace.   How's your last week going?

Ricki, don't push it.  Remember, you have to take care of yourself.  You don't want those shingles to flair up again.

Judi, I always think if I lost my laptop with an Internet connection there would go a best friend for me. It is such a communicator to the world for me. So I know how you feel with a loss. We all need to get a life, huh??

I agree, if I lost my laptop, I would indeed have lost my "best" friend and "business" partner!  Thanks for stopping by.
