Maple Ridge Real Estate normally just plots along with the standard sale and resale of homes but every once in a while a fun listing pops up that gets our attention.  The historic Whonnock United Church, built in 1914, has been put up for sale and the congregation will be amalgamated with the Webster's Corners United Church next year.Whonnock United Church for sale Maple Ridge Real Estate

I have not been in the building since my Grandmother, Olive Leaf, died in the 90's and her funeral was conducted there.  I recall a classic, quaint old country church, could have been the church in Little House on the Prairie but in this case, on the Hillside.  The surrounding forest and gardens are beautiful and serene, it is hoped that a buyer would preserve the building but there is no Municipal designation from the District of Maple Ridge that would stop it's demolition.Whonnock United Church for sale Maple Ridge Real Estate

My Grandmother spent many an hour in the congregation and is buried not far away, beside her husband, in the Graveyard just down the street.

Scott,

My parents bought a "de-sanctified", (I believe that was the term), church on Saltspring Island years ago that was converted into a SFD. Man I wish they still had it in the family. Must be worth a ton today.

yah i know what you mean, some of these old churches are very attractive to certain folk.  this one however seems to have an issue with the church, rectory and parking lot being on 3 seperate legal lots only one of which having water and a septic,  there is also an easement to a house at the back.  Not ideal by any standards. The church has no driveway as well unless you buy the rectory which is in serious disrepair and or the parking lot across the street.
