The following is a good read on what is going on in the credit reporting world

The short is that the FICO scoring system has been revamped to attempt to better predict risk.Ā

"Ulzheimer said. But for mortgages, lenders doing traditional conforming loans backed by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae likely haven't made the move yet, he said. That's because they're waiting for Freddie and Fannie to approve its use. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae "are essentially the lender... they're the ones that set the underwriting criteria," he said"

I figure that there will be many, many changes to the FICO. How else is everyone gonna get credit to buy stuff to fuel the future of our economy?

Interesting.  I wonder what will be considered a good credit score once we come out of this.

My guess is that we'll still be looking for the same kinds of scores as before.  But, I am also guessing that there are more than a few people who think they've got great credit, but who actually live on the edge, (e.g., a job-loss would destroy them) will be sorely disappointed at their new scores.

We know the Fair Issac credit scoring system is flawed.  To make it ever more complicated for consumers the FICO score the creidt beruaeas provide to consumers are not the same as when appling for loans!

I don't think there's ever been a time in our history when people have been more fixated on their credit scores.

Tom, I agree.  But, I wonder if it is all that different than yester-year with people being fixated on what echelon of society they were in, what family money they came from, who they knew and what parties they went to.  We all seem to care about what others think of us (or how we think they think of us).  Hmm. writing that list, I think it all still seems to exist.  The only thing about FICO is that it is a game _everyone_ can play.
