Market Explorer Plugin for Wordpress great for creating local content

Today’s Web 2.0 Wrap-Up comes from the Future of Real Estate Marketing blog on a great new Wordpress plugin, created by Zillow. I absolutely love Wordpress as a platform for quickly getting either a blog or an entire site up and running fast. It’s designed to share content, which is a must if you want repeat website visitors and good search engine visibility. And it’s very user friendly (if you’ve ever tried updating an html site, you can really appreciate this!).

From FOREM:

Great news for those of you who are building your web sites in Wordpress. Zillow has announced the release of the new Local Market Explorer WP Plugin.

The LME plugin, which was built by Jonathan Mabe and Andrew Mattie, developers with Diverse Solutions, automatically creates rich pages on your blog that incorporate data from Zillow, Education.com, Flickr, Walk Score and Yelp.

You can download the plugin immediately from WordPress plugin directory.

Go ahead and read the rest of their post for some key notes on using the plugin. This may not be for everyone, since the info is currently pulling from larger cities, but if that’s you, try it out. Having targeted local content on your site is a great way to differentiate your site from the many other local real estate sites out there, and gives lots of value to your readers!

Rich I tried figuring out the whole Wordpress once and I gave up.  Guess I need to get back at it!

Sounds like a great plugin...now if only Zillow had data on St. John's Newfoundland :)

It looks pretty cool.  I would love to be able to fiddle with it a bit more.  I started up a few areas on my LaneBailey.com blog...

Sounds like this could be a very useful plugin. I'll have to look at this further to see how narrowly a market area can be defined.

Tami - this would actually be on the self-hosted Wordpress site, not on Wordpress.com. Not sure which one you tried, but if you ever decide that you'd like to try again, I have a great Wordpress resource right in your area! (Southwest Michigan)

Stephen - darn! Well, who knows? Maybe they'll have data soon.

Lane & John - hope it ends up working out for you.

Thanks for this, Rich.  I think L.A. qualifies :)  Will start looking at it over the weekend.  So many tools, so little time.

Rich,

I am new to blogging outside of the Rain. I just started a WP Blog - hosted online.  It seems like adding plug-ins and stuff you have to have your own hosting and this just confuses me.  Is there a simple detailed plan on how to use WP - inexpensively for the non-techno geek.

I am going to be putting up a wordpress site sometime this winter.  Wish me luck. I will go check out the LME.  It sounds interesting!

John - this probably doesn't work on the wordpress.com blogs, only on self-hosted Wordpress blogs. So if you were interested in using the LME, you'd probably want to check that out. I can look for a simple Wordpress guide for you!

Evelyn - Best of luck to you!
