Georgia News: Columbus Ga Homes, Fort Benning, Phenix City Real Estate. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Donovan awarded a $14,540,363 grant to 11 grantees in Georgia. Muscogee County and Columbus received $740,907, to re-house families who fall into homelessness and to prevent them from becoming homeless in the first place.
The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program is intended to help those families that need finacnial assistance on a short term basis. Families who have encountered hardships that would cause them to become homeless or are being forced to live in a shelter or on the streets can now receive rental assistance for up to 18 months. State assistance is not limited to rent but can include security deposits, utility deposits, utility payments, moving cost assistance and hotel vouchers. Payment will only be made to third parties, such as landlords and utility companies.
HPRP has found that in many hardship cases a little help goes a long way to stabilize a family and alleviates the need for furher assistance.
