Five Quick Ways to Spruce Up Your Bathroom

You've moved into your new Lennar home, now what? How about spending a bit of time to decorate your bathroom? The bathroom can be one of the easiest and least expensive rooms to decorate. By following the tips below, you can create a relaxing space for yourself and for a relatively small investment of time and money.

Before you get started, decide on a design or color scheme. Doing so will help you determine exactly what you need to buy to complete your décor.

1) Paint. Adding a coat of paint can make a big impact. Deep color makes walls look like they are fading away, bright colors can be cheerful, and light pastel colors can be very soothing. No matter what color you choose, make sure the paint you use is durable and can withstand the high humidity of a bathroom area. More details on paint can be found here.

2) De-clutter. Before you accumulate more items, get rid of those you don't need. Make-up, hair products, and shaving cream that haven't been used in months can be donated or thrown away. Old medications should be disposed of appropriately. Use baskets and tubs to help organize those items you are keeping. More tips on de-cluttering your bathroom can be found here.

3) Mirrors. Large frameless mirrors can be turned into an attractive focal point by creating a border from decorative lumber. Piece lengths of 1 x 4 lumber around the mirror to form a frame. Paint or stain the pieces ahead of time to coordinate with the room. Swags of fabric can also be used to create a softer frame. Fabric can be changed out easily, so don't be afraid to use your imagination to create something that reflects your personality.

You can also add depth and interest to your bathroom (or any room) by grouping small mirrors together. Choose interesting shapes and group in odd numbers (1, 3, 5) to create an eye-catching arrangement. Add some of your favorite artwork to spice it up even more.

4) Towels. Adding personality through the towels you choose can be one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to dress up your bathroom. For each set, two bath towels, hand towels and washcloths should be enough. Choose towels that coordinate with the color scheme you selected - and while you're at it, try a new rug to match. Decorative or monogrammed towels can be added for a more personalized feel. Appealing textures such as geometric patterns, florals, or damask designs add depth and interest. Consider using a decorative basket or wine rack to display your towels and rolling them up or folding them in unusual ways can bring a splash of fun to your bathroom. 5) Details. Now, add some plants to soften the feel of the room. If there is not much sunlight, silk plants or dried flowers can be used. Dried eucalyptus or sweetgrass will add a natural fragrance that can be very inviting. Artwork and photos can add interest as well. You can add a ledge to place framed photos, vases, and other knickknacks or hang items on the wall. For lighter objects, consider using removable Velcro instead of nails to keep the number of holes in your wall to a minimum.

However you choose to decorate, make sure you keep it true to what you like - and remember: with such simple steps, you can always change it out later on!
