Autumn in Wayne County PA

Autumn is in the air in Northeast PA.  Acutally, it's here - the chilly weather came sooner than usual, prompting the leaves to begin their annual transformation from lucious shades of green to more vivid reds, oranges, and yellows.

I do love autumn - I love going to Ritter's for fresh pressed apple cider...every year, we head out to Roba's Family Farm to check out Bunnyville, jump in hay, enjoy the pig races, and of course, wander around the corn maze. We go with our church group and rent a picnic site complete with a firepit for making smores and roasting weenies.

The autumn skies are more brilliantly blue, it seems; everything has a hyper-saturated beauty that comes too soon and doesn't stay long enough.  The earthy smell in the air, the comfortable warm sweaters, pots of steaming soup and piping hot biscuits....there is much to love about autumn in PA.

I just wish it didn't mean winter was around the corner.

Enjoy this collection of autumn pictures - I've posted a similar one in years past, and always got a good response.

Hi Karen,

I went to undergraduate school in Wilkes-Barre.  I think NE Pa is such a beautiful place.  Thanks for sharing--gorgeous!  The video was amazingly beautiful.

Mari, thank you so much for the comment.  Yes, NEPA is a lovely place - and it sure is a small world!  :)

Karen, It appears I was about a week late.  Just a week ago we got back from Rhode Island and I was hoping to see some color but it was just barely changing.  I love living here but I do miss that fall color.

Here in my corner of PA, we usually peak around Columbus Day.  It was early this year, due to the cold spring and summer and early cold snap, I guess.  DId you fly or (gulp) drive?

Hi Karen,

Wow - we don't have anywhere near so much color yet.  But we usually peak towards the end of the month.  Beautiful photos. Congrats on a great video.

Ruthmarie - a few of these pics are from last year but everything pretty much looks like this right now (well not toady as it's raining...lol)   We usually peak right around now anyway.  I wanted to go driving along Rt 97 by the Delaware River in NY state last Sunday, it was gorgeous, but not in the cards for me due to other obligations  :(

Karen - Autumn happens to be my favorite time of the year.  And your pics here personify Pa during this season.

Hey Karen! Love the autumn pictures, while we were out enjoying the scenery we were saying how gorgeous this season is, but also how short a season it is.

Jason - thank you - and I agree, fall is beautiful here in PA - I just wish it didn't mean winter is around the corner.

Susan - I can understand that since it's much warmer down there in old Virginny - ha ha - but here in PA it's cool so much of the year that I get rejuvenated come July! ha!  I do love Fall though.  There's something comforting in the air.

Lorena - You will have to plan a trip to the northeast (New England of course is known for beautiful fall scenery because the  mountains are more pronounced there than here) sometime.

Ian - you are welcome to come back any time! :)

Al and Peggy - thank you so much and yes, the fact that fall is SO SHORT is depressing sometimes.  Last year we had a foot of snow before Halloween!!!!

Ann - thank you for looking and leaving your compliments.  Much appreciated! :)

Bill, thank you so much.  :)  Two of those pictures are especially special to me, as they were taken at the home whereI grew up - before it was sold.  :(  I still regret selling that place, and will regret it till my dying day.  Fall does that to me too.  LOL

Karen - That photo is simply tremendous.  The slide show is great too.  Autumn is such a wonderful season.  We took a walk today in the Art Museum Area of Philadlephia and it was just amazing.  Am so glad we took a moment to do that as these seasons go by quickly !
