Winterize your rentals and keep an eye on them

Big winter storms like the one on our horizon is a good reminder to winterize your vacant rentals.  Have roof gutters cleared, windows secured and water mains turned off to avoid unnecessary problems.  Once the storms blow over it is always a good idea to walk the vacant properties to inspect for damage and of course chase off any squatters using the property as a safe haven.  These are simple but important steps to protect your client's investment.

James * I NEVER had these issues in Hawaii.....I'll have ALL my property gutters cleaned in late November and I'll out-ride any vacant units weekly and make sure heat is on beginning the end of Oct; however, I may have no VACANCIES which I am very pleased with.

FYI * the last 2 properties I "winterized" I rented the next week so that procedure may be my LUCKY CHARM to get vacancies rented....

Good advice. People sometimes don't think about it.
We're just shutting down the water coolers on some rentals that have them. We have to make sure the heat is on a minimum in vacant rentals, so we don't freeze pipes. We're almost getting cold enough. We don't "winterize" for the reason Wallace gave, above. They rent and we have to undo it.

That is funny , chase off squatters! In our case, chase off teenagers in town who think they have found the perfect party place.
