On October 28th I will be teaching my very first social media class with an emphasis on Twitter. As I research my presentation I have come up with a short list of tips that will help you be a better Twitter user...
#1: Use Tweetdeck!
Oh man do I love Tweetdeck and it just keeps getting better. Not only can I manage my twitter account but I can also manage my facebook AND myspace accounts if I want. Oh and I can manage SEVERAL user names. So say I want to see what's happening on my company account and on my personal account simultaneously...Yes I can! If you want to learn more about how to use Tweetdeck then you should check out my video tutorial at http://thecoloradogirlblog.com/post/1205264/how-to-use-tweetdeck
#2: Save time and brain cells by scheduling a majority of your tweets ahead of time!
Twuffer.com- So easy anyone can do it. Just type in your future tweet, select a time and date for it to post and abracadabra just like magic it will post the tweet to your account when you want it to with no further thought necessary!
#3: Track your progress and see your stats:
This is pretty new to me actually but I finally got around to picking an analyzer I liked that was super easy to use and gave me useful stats without overwhelming me. I personally like Twitalyzer.com because not only is it REALLY easy to use but it gives me all my stats in an easy to understand format and even gives me advice on how I can improve.
#4: Connect it all together:
So you don't have time to do it all. Well neither do I but I want to still have a presence so I have utilized all the connection tools I can to connect all my social media accounts. I connected my Facebook Fan page (http://www.facebook.com/CampbellHomesCO) to my Twitter account so that every time I post something new to the fan page it is also posted to the twitter account. I connected my YouTube account the same way as well as my Activerain account. Saves me time and helps me to broadcast all my post in one central place. Do you have a Facebook Fan page you want to connect to your twitter page? Go to http://www.facebook.com/twitter to set it up.
#5: If there is one thing I want you to take away from this its that social media whether it be through Facebook, twitter or any other outlet you prefer, is not about SELLING and TELLING. Social media is about engaging people in conversation, building trust, building relationships, being HUMAN. Yes it's OK to post stuff about your company but also try to post things that are of value. Social media is not a tool to create profits it's a tool to create followers, loyal ones at that, who will tell your story to their followers and sooner or later your followers might even become customers.
