Looking for that pesky "blog" voice

By
Real Estate Agent with Sound Realty

I know it is here somewhere; I swear I just heard it. Or was that my regular voice, or my old Sargeants voice,

or my old radio voice , or was that my parents' voice?  Maybe it's my business or my old teaching voice.

    Whatever....

The sum of us is the sum of all our experiences in life; and the practical knowledge that envelops our daily

work in Real Estate drives the voice that people see and hear. When our insides are the same as what we

show to that public, our blog voice becomes loud and clear.

To most of us this is not easy to figure out. We watch and read and listen to others that seem to have the

program of life together. It is like the TV program West Wing, when the President says he needs you to

jump off a cliff for him. No thinking involved, just action and trust.

So here I sit stiil looking for my voice. There are so many wonderful writers on Active Rain, that some trust

is needed just to meet their level of competence felt on a daily basis.

I do better "one on one", always have and always will.  So putting, as ARDELL would say into a "stream of

consciousness", thoughts for all to see - might just take a little time.

What the hell, we only live once...

More to say when I can get the words to make some sense.

I really commend you for taking the first step--that's the hardest one.  Believe me, I think everyone struggles from time to time.

I can relate to doing better "one on one".  But that's the beauty of a blog.   Blogs don't get read out loud to a large audience.  It's just one other person sitting there reading.  Just tell them a story.

Hey Brotha!

Welcome!  Oh, you and I are the only ones who will truly know about "VOICE", EEH?  Very deep post.

I'm not a deep person (hey I idolize Paris Hilton and Perez Hilton), but I got your groove.  When the outside synchs with the inside the "stream" happens.  It does take time.  More than 14 weeks (that's a little buffer zone for me, LOL).

Featured post.  HMMM  Did a little 'voice' pull some strings?  Caleb do tell.

Congratulations Kim on apparently finding a voice that we can all understand.  You've touched on a subject that all 36,145 A/R bloggers can relate to ... and all need to hear! Thanks!  (P.S.  Wouldn't it be great if we all left a comment?!)

Kim, welcome to The Rain!  I smiled reading this. I know my real speaking voice tends to go up in pitch at an alarming rate when I get reallllly excited! And I always hope I don't do the same thing with my blogging voice. Good advice here though, it becomes more apparent over time. And I love the word pesky so just the fact that you used it in your first post? I'm subscribing to you :-)

Kim, it's nice to see you at AR!  My husband and I share an office and he'll read some of the blogs "on the sidelines" wanting to jump in...maybe you'll be some inspiration!

Different styles work for different folks.  My own style is kind of quirky but it works.  One of the very best places to find your voice is here on active rain.  Try out some ideas in members only posts.  The other folks here will let you know what they think.

Also many great writers through history have tried alcoholism as a way of finding their voice. Obviously that does have some downsides, but I think you'll find the cheerleaders for that position are just haters that haven't found their voice.

Best of luck to you!

I feel your pain. I struggle with this regularly and just came back from about a 2-3 week break from AR, thinking it might help me recharge. I'm still struggling with it, so I think it's just like a hitting slump. You just keep swinging and swinging, working and adjusting to perfection over time. Eventually we'll hit another homer!

Kim, OK, I've been thinking about you for awhile since I originally commented here and you said you were better with one on one, so why not take one of your clients and video tape an interview with them and post that! It will really let your personality shine through!
