I couldn't belive it, there he was with the carts smashed into the store window as I walked by and said "I didn't do it."  He was using one of those motorized cart pushers to help collect the carts from the parking lot. He had about 10- 12 carts and came up the sidewalk too fast and lost control and BAM right into the window of the store next door to the store he was working for.

The window must have been a safety glass because it didn't break completely out of the frame. It appeared that noone from the store even realized that it had been hit. I didn't think fast enough to use my camera to take a picture before the kid moved the carts away from the window.

What would you have done?

I called the store that the kid worked for and asked to speak to the manager to explain what one of the workers had just done. Guess what she tells me? We don't bring the carts up on that side of the store. Are you kidding me? I explained that I just went past him as he did it. Yea, ok I will check it out came the response. Realizing that she probably wasn't going to do anything, I proceeded to call the store that had the window broke. I have to go through the phone gate keeper to get to the manager. Or so I thought, I explain what happened to the gatekeeper, she puts me on hold for 2 minutes then gets back on the phone to continue to interrogate me as if it was a crank call. Needless to say the manager of that store never got on the phone. I waited in the parking lot in my car to see if either manager from either store was going to check it out. Bingo, that's right, neither one of them ever came out to check it out.

I can picture the call to the store's insurance company the next day. Excuse me sir/ma'am do you know how this happened? No it was fine when we left last night, someone must have smashed it during the night.

Do you think I am wrong in expecting someone to take responsibility for their actions? What if the kid smashed the carts into your car instead of the store window and walked away. How would you like to come out and see your window or headlight smashed and have no idea of how it happened and you would now have to pay for it?

Should I have done more? Should I have gone into the store instead of calling? I would love to know what your thoughts are.

Thanks.

Bill:  I think it is just insane that the person who crashed the carts and broke the window did not own up to it.  But... it figures.  And... if it were me... I would have gone inside the store that was hit by the kid and the carts... and talked in person to the manager.  I would just have done the same thing that I would wish someone would have done for me... had I been the manager of that store.  The way I look at things... if you're not part of the solution... you're part of the problem.

I guess it's good that nobody was worried about it.  It probably wasn't worth their time.

Bill,

If I was the kid I would have been mad at you!  If I was the owner of the business I would be mad at my managers!  If I was the Manager of the business I would have been out there pronto!  If I was you...hmm not sure what I would have done...You did a lot more than most would have

One of the reasons we are in so much trouble as a nation is no one wants to pay the consequences for their actions, and our regulators are all looking the other way.
