Mary -
Can't help you. I disagree on number one. And since it is your number one....
And I disagree with the tactics called for.
"Coming for them" is not enough. In fact it's silly.
Finding a candidate for Congress and backing that person all the way from now to November 2010 is required ...and in 100 Congressional districts (not the 100 most conservative but the one hundred on the margin)...or maybe even in fifty.
There is no marginal district in the country where all 12 of your points will find majority acceptance.
The first one of the 12 that you need to to throw out is ...your number one.
That's because many of the Hispanic immigrants you don't want ...actually agree with many of the other items on your list.
That's also because, those same Latinos comprise an essential voting bloc in many of those marginal districts.
Without them working with you, you can forget about almost all the other items on your list.
And BTW: with most who agree with this woman's number 1....it is all about race.
Because if it were just about legality, amnesty would fix the problem.
Mary,
I don't respond much on these posts, but this one brought tears to my eyes....Very moving and powerful. I will be sharing this immediately. This woman most certainly speaks for me. If the rest of the citzens do not "awaken" to what is happening under the cloak of darkenss, our great country is surely doomed.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Mary - I got this same letter via e-mail this morning, and I'm in complete agreement with its author.
And Jim - I'm afraid you're in for a rude awakening. The issue is illegal immigration - regardless of race, country of origin, etc. And countless polls taken over the past several years show an overwhelming number of voters are adamantly against granting any kind of amnesty for those now here illegally, no matter who they are, or where they came from.
There's no way we'll stand for another amnesty, of any kind - all the last one did was encourage millions more to enter illegally, and hide in the shadows, hoping and waiting to get in on the next amnesty - it's not going to happen.
And this statement of yours, " That's also because, those same Latinos comprise an essential voting bloc in many of those marginal districts.", is a perfect example of the problem. Remember, we're talking about illegals - non-citizens, who by law, can't vote - and yet far too many of them do!
And as for this statement, " There is no marginal district in the country where all 12 of your points will find majority acceptance.", you might want to take another look at what's going on with the "Tea Party" movements, and check the latest 16 Gallup polls, which show that Conservatives now outnumber Liberals by 2 to 1.
We're taking our Country back!
Mary, keep postng. This letter sums up mnay of the feelings I have had about the direction we have been going. I think many have awakened in this country as to the dire consequences we face if we kee going sown this path.
Jeff, well stated thoughts on illegal immigration.
Jeff,
Thank you for saying to Jim what I wanted to say. My emotion tends to get the best of me when dealing with issues like this and although I started a rather lengthy response to Jim's accusation of racism, I thought better of it...I'm TIRED of being labeled a racist by people just because I disagree with amnesty for ANYONE here ILLEGALLY.
Jim, You have been listening to The Extreme Liberals slant for Political Correctness, It's garbage` This racist line is getting old they need a new lingo. Big Corporations are employing the illegal workers and this is why we won't see anything change.
This greed and pc are the same thoughts that are destroying America and did not stop the Terriorist Jihad sympathizer at Fort Hood.
Thank you all for your gracious and enthutiastic comments
Jeff you took the words right out of my mouth too!
Micki, I think that most of us were silent and did not respond until we have been forced to take a stand by this Government's distructive agenda and propaganda that has been shown to be untrue. Our grandparents and past generations had to come into this country legally so do they but big corporations are using them so they are destroying our economy from the inside out.
Vote them out in 2010 or sooner, we are making a difference!
Mary -
Actually, it's not just the big corporations that are employing "illegals".
Just like all the rest of the work-force: It's small businesses all over the country who have a hard time finding "Americans" who want to work for what they can afford to pay.
I have not been listening to "the liberals". I have been reading the election results. Those speak for themselves. They speak the truth whether a person wants to hear it or not.
Jeff -
One of us is simply hearing what we want to hear...out there on the hustings. I don't think it's me.
The website to which you link says poll after poll proves the public supports a pro-enforcement, anti-amnesty position. The website does itself link to poll after to poll taken by established firms...and cherry-picking (at best) what those polls say.
For example, the most recent poll it mentions: The website says an April, 2009 poll confirms it's view. It gives a link. Here is what the text of that linked report really says:
In another new high, 61 percent now support giving illegal immigrants “the right to live
here legally if they pay a fine and meet other requirements.”
That’s up from 49 percent in 2007 to a substantial majority for the first time.
In this case support is up more sharply among Republicans, a 17-point gain to 59 percent, than among Democrats, up 9 points to 68 percent. It’s up 14 points among independents.
Yes, most Americans want good border enforcement. Some want it so we can keep out Latinos. But others simply want it so we can keep out terrorists.
And: Yes, most Americans support letting the millions now here stay if they pay some penalty for coming here illegally. Most Americans see no point in keeping those folks in the shadows of our economy and society.
You are not going to "take the country back" until you accept the votes of those Latino citizens who helped elect George Bush.
Mary:
I know you speak from a Christian perspective.
Here is mine:
After saying we should love our neighbors as ourselves, Christ was asked, "And who is my neighbor?"
His answer may be the most famous parable of them all:
A man fell among thieves on the road from Jericho to Jerusalem. The road was not much more than a (one-lane) trail at the time of Christ.
The man was lying there beside the road. Passers-by had to nearly step over someone in that position. The man was passed-by by two men...leaders of the Jews - very religious in their background and demeanor.
They did not stop to help.
A third man came along and helped the man - to the extent of taking him to an Inn and paying for his extended care, promising the inn-keeper that he would pay any additional amount due the next time he travelled the road.
Christ said the third man, the clear hero of his story, was a Samaritan. The Jews hated the Samaritans. They considered them to be less worthy for a host of historical, religious reasons.
In fact, in those days, the Jews would go far out of their way - many miles - to stay out of Samaria on their way from the Sea of Gallilee to Jerusalem - travelling much of the distance on the East side of the Jordan River - and often through (not coincidentally?) the town of Jericho.
Christ asked the man to whom he was speaking, "Who was neighbor" to the wounded man.
The answer was obvious. We were all told to go and do like wise.
The Samaritans, occupants of what we now call "the West Bank" were the neighbors to the Jews of Jesus's time.
(The Palestinians are their descendants today.)
We are commanded to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is the Second Great Commandment.
The people living across the Rio Grande are our neighbors.
Mary -
One more thought:
Our ancestors did NOT all have to "come here legally".
Mine were all here before the Revolution - even the Irish among them.
There was no law regarding immigration whatsoever.....until the 1890's when we had a lot of Chinese here building our railroads in the West (including here in Oregon)...and doing our laundry all over the country. Their presence was suddenly called the Yellow Peril. It was all about race...and religion.
Congress reacted by passing the first immigration limitation.
Many of my ancestors came as indentured servants - paying for their ticket on some leaky old boat with seven years of voluntary servitude. Do you think they would have been stopped by some puny river no matter how Grande?
Do you think they would have been stopped by some fence no matter how high?
They very likely would not have been stopped by a law either.
