Gary - There is something romantic about traveling across country, or about the globe on a motorcycle.  Whether it is T. H. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), or Che Guevara (The Motorcycle Diaries), it conjure all sorts of visions.

Jim,  Thanks,  I thought it was a fun photo and I do wear my hair a little shorter now.

Jane,  Thank you.  It was just after I got out of the US Army and I was anxious to explore and see the world.

Myrl,  It is exciting and romantic to travel -- and you learn so much.  I would love to follow in Che's footsteps and travel clear across Latin America.  Thanks for stopping by.

Bob, I didn't know that about Elvis.  I knew that Che rode a Norton.  I've always loved the old models of British bikes.

Lee & Carol,  Thank you.  It did bring back a lot of memories.  I started to submit it in black and white and then I thought of the sepia tone.  I think it really adds to the photo.

In autumn of 1963, the boy down the street that I had grown up with, returned home from the Army on a motorcycle.  He had been stationed in Germany.  He had been flown to New Jersey where he was discharged.  He promptly bought a 700 cc Royal Enfield, and without ever having riden a motorcycle in his life, rode it home to California.  He described scenes on open range in Colorado, where the cattle looked at him as a "toreador on wheels."  When he arrived in California, he didn't look like the boy down the street any longer.  We married, and to pay for the birth of our first born, we had to sell the beloved motorcycle.  But, not before I rode it into a ditch shortly after we had finished painting the gas tank with 22 coats of gorgeous Candy Apple Red.  I don't think I was ever forgiven for that:-)

Tony & Darcy,  Thank you.  It was a great bike and an interesting part of my life.

Myrl,  That is a fantastic story.  Thanks for telling me about it.  I can relate to part of the trip across the country.  I shipped my bike back to New york and proceeded to ride it home to Wyoming.  That winter I went back to college at the University of Wyoming and the bike was my only transportation -- not really too good in the ice and snow and cold.

Great shot. Looks like a perfect way to see the countryside. Like the coloring of the shot also. :)

Steve,  Thank you.  Touring on a bike is a perfect way to see things - unless the weather gets bad.  Bikes are no fun in snow and ice.  Since it is an old photo, I thought the sepia would work and I'm glad that you liked it.

Hi Gary, I remember your fantastic previous blog where you were held at gun point. It's great to see you on your bike with that rugged background. I agree w/ Jane's statement too!

Sara,  Thank you.  I've always like the look of photos that are tinted with sepia.  This is the first time that I have tried it though and I was happy with the result.
