Miami Shores puts together a really great 4th of July event every year. All the residents look forward to the activities and the fireworks display. The Village of Miami Shores hosts an Independence Day celebration at The Miami Shores Country Club Driving Range. There's live music, food, activities for the kids including bounce houses, and it all starts at 6:00 PM.

This year, 4th of July falls on a Wednesday, so prepare those flags, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and walk over to the golf course. The actual fireworks display starts at 9:00 PM and you can see it from the Aquatic center, from anywhere in the Golf Course and some are even lucky to see it from their own back yards.

This is one of my favorite events held in Miami Shores because the whole community shows their spirit and joins in the fun.

Time: 6:00 PM celebration begins

9:00 PM fireworks

I wonder how the drought will affect this year's celebrations around Florida.

My neighbors are constantly lighting stuff off... despite the dry grass.

hopefully there will be a nice overnight/mid afternoon drenching prior to lighting anything inland!

I like the beachfront displays like this one where you know it is safe and everyone can have a sense of community!

David - we've had lots of rain here in Miami Shores - but you are right, I wonder how different cities address the fireworks and the drout.

Ines, we have always done a great job with our fireworks here in town on the 4th of July, but this year they are moving it to next weekend to coincide with other events that will be going on at that time. I don't know how I feel about that yet, it just does not seem to be the same.

George - there's been talk in different local towns about rescheduling the fireworks since 4th of July falls on a Wednesday, but isn't the whole point to celebrate Independence Day? I would feel a little awkward myself.

Thanks. We had a great 4th as well. It is actually our wedding anniversary so we always have a pretty big celebration. And this way Rich can't claim he forgot. SVW. I think we'll have to plan on coming your way for Easter.
