Virtual Treasure Hunt Sponsored by Jekyll Island, Georgia......anyone can win.....
Six years ago, the Jekyll Island Authority started a give away promotion in the form of a treasure hunt on Jekyll Island, Georgia. The Jekyll Island Authority would place hand crafted glass floats referred to as Island Treasures on the dunes and beaches of Jekyll Island, Georgia. Residents and guests would comb the island and find these unique treasures which are stamped with the year they were created and placed on the island.
Island Treasures are very similar in looks to the glass floats used on the fishing nets by fisherman in the early 1900's. The glass float treasures are put out each day on the island for the first two months of winter. If you located one, you can register it at the Visitors Center on Jekyll Island and receive a biography on the artist who was commissioned to create the Island Treasure as well as a certificate to authenticate the treasure.
This year for those who cannot travel to Jekyll Island, the Jekyll Island Authority has ceated a virtual online treasure hunt at http://www.jekyllisland.com. The small hidden Island Treasure Photos are hidden throughout the site and the first person to click on one will win a Island Treasure that will be delivered to them.
