The Tree is UP...Bring on Santa

It's official...the Christmas Tree 2009 is UP.  I have to admit the annual event was a lot less painful this year.  As much as I love the tradition of having a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree there were some aspects that I had come to dread.  Namely putting the lights on the tree.  Tangled lights, strands that are shorted out, finding the damn tiny fuse, prickly needles, sticky sap....all the negatives we forget during the 11 months preceding the Christmas tree event.

This year we have a pre lit, pre strung FAKE tree.  I know, I know, I said it would never happen.  but now that we have the tree up and decorated I am never going back.  No sawing the trunk shorter, no finding the 'good side', no dropping needles, no watering the tree and the resulting leaking pan, and best of all, NO STRINGING LIGHTS.  I love it!

Here's the preliminary result.  We still have to hang all the icicles, my wife reserves that for herself, it seems I don't have the patience and end up 'flinging' them which is not acceptable according to her.   christmas tree georgetown texas   Now all we need is PRESENTS!

Have a Merry Christmas

Mike for years to come you will appreciate your new kind of tree.  It makes sense to have a fake tree here in Phoenix as they dry out so fast.  I haven't had a real tree in years and years. I miss the smell of fresh pine - but hey a good wreath takes care of that one!

Sit back and relax - you've now arrived at Santa Land!

Andrew, thanks.

Charles, this is the earliest we've had one up.  I used to torture the kids and buy the tree first week of Dec, then let it sit in the garage so the limbs could drop.

Anna, A fresh wreath is a good idea, maybe I'll buy a discount 'ugly' tree and cut it up for the greenery....that sounds cruel when i write it.

Zane, we're still making the 'good/bad' list for Christmas....ya better behave.

We've had a fake tree for years - looks great, kids like it, it's pre-lit - what else could I need?

Jason,  We were always big on tradition when the kids were smaller,, even went to the Tree farm a few times to cut our own.  Years later when I asked my now grown kids what they remembered about Christmas, one comment was  'dad cussing while messing with the lights'.  You're probably correct in skipping that Christmas chore.

As far as what you might need....how about a shot of bourbon to celebrate?

Mike,

Your Christmas tree looks great.   You saved yourself a lot of hassle and time with the pre-lit tree!   Merry Christmas to you and your family.
