LUST- will you find it?

What a crazy year!  You never know what you are going to find when you sell a country or rural property.  Twice this year there were listings with leaking underground storage tanks (LUST). I would have never known about them unless I asked the owners if they have or ever had a tank.  One listing use to be a gas station that was converted into a sandwich shop. The tanks leaked and now there is soil contamination. It is a superfund site. There are several monitoring well and the plume is moving away from the site. I guess that is good for the owners.   The other one is a old building that still has the tanks. I imagine they empty now.  I don't think the realtor knows about this one. I had a listing of a home in town that was built in the 1960.  the gentlemen lived there as a teacher for years.  He said he had a tank. I coudn't believe it. He said it was emptied and packed with sand and has not been in use for over 30 years.  So you never know what you may find in these rural area!  If you have any stories I would love for you to share them with me. We can learn from each other!

Hey, I sell houses in inner-city Washington, DC.  We have lots of them!  And the clean up stuff is pretty scarey!

I have one of those listings right now. It has a leaking underground oil heater tank. OH BOY, what fun.

How funny Todd, my parents live in Tigard, OR.  Where abouts it the leaking underground storage tank? What town or city.  I would love to know.  I always wanted to move there with them but I need sunshine and they won't move back!  LOL  I also have a brother and his family on the coast in Lincoln City.  My sister in-law is a broker there for Prudential Taylor and Taylor.  Small world!
