A White Christmas in Oklahoma? Say it Ain't So!

Let it Snow!A White Christmas in Oklahoma?  Say it Ain't So!

Hang onto your hats (and gloves and mittens and scarves and coats!) everyone.  It looks like parts of Oklahoma may have a white Christmas this year.  If you're not from Oklahoma, this may not be a big deal to you, but to us flatlanders, this is huge!  We don't get white Christmas' here very often ever.  I can remember being a kid in Tulsa and going outside to play on my new rollerskates or with my new toys on so many Christmas days because it was sunny and warm outside.  This one is being predicted for areas north of Tulsa, but that can mean it lands in the Tulsa area too.

The good news is that school is out, so we won't have to navigate that hurdle.  The bad news is that snow and/or ice can mean power outages.  And as this snow event is going to happen over the Christmas holiday, you might want to take these tips to heart.

1. Get out your generator and get it fired up!  Many of us own these since the famous ice storm a couple of years ago.  Be sure to check the oil first!

2. Don't forget fresh batteries and food.  Of course, you should have this already since you're getting ready for all those Christmas visitors, right?

3. If you're from out of town, learn this:  KRMG 740 a.m. and 102.3.  This is the best local coverage for weather in the greater Tulsa area.

4. Make sure your house is ready!  Because a snow event can also be an ice event in Oklahoma, you might need to be ready for a power outage.  See number 1 again.  If the power goes down, you're going to need a good fireplace (is it safe?), lots of blankets, flashlights, candles and other necessities for living in a dark, cold house.  You may end up going to a hotel if we have a massive outage...that is if you are lucky enough to get there early.

5. You'll need lots of towels for the dogs.  Remember, when they come back inside their feet will be wet.  And those wet feet will trash your pretty, new carpet.  Not good when it comes time to sell the house this spring!

Of course, all that having been said, we probably won't get anything.  The weather in Oklahoma is a fickle thing.  You may think it's gonna do something and then it will turn right around do the complete opposite!  We have the most confused weathermen in the nation.

So there you go.  Looks like this Christmas could be quite interesting this year in Oklahoma!

Bob - I hope you do get snow (not ice). How lovely would that be.  Pretty nice!  I can guarantee we won't be getting any snow this year!!  It is a bit cold here for us (about 50) but it's sunny and gorgeous outside with plants flowering like crazy.

Merry Christmas!
