Droid vs. Treo

By
Real Estate Agent with Metro West Realty GA RE#258608

I've presently got a Palm Treo with Palm OS and I'm going to have to move to something else. It looks like the Palm Pre isn't going to make to Verizon, so I'm contemplating a change. A couple of REALTOR friends have the Droid by Motorola. I'm trying to check it out.

One of the down-sides is that I have my supra e-key on my Palm and I don't think there's an app for the key on Droid, but Blackberry does have the ekey.

Just wondering if anyone else is moving away from the Palm - it sure appears that they've lost the market. I need help!!

Thanks,

Dwayne Hicks

I love my iPhone, but there isn't an app yet for the ekey.

I'd have a hard time giving up my PALM contacts so I have a Centro and may spring for a PRE since my cel phones are with Sprint.  The prices are coming down which is why I am delaying the purchase.

Word of caution- I tried a Blackberry Storm II because I was used to a touch screen (Palm TX) and because the Blackberry would do Supra. I absolutely hated typing on it, to the point where I sent it back. I want a Droid, but am holding off because of Supra.

Dwayne,

I've had several clients move to Droid devices over the last few months, and they love it!  I've set them all up with them, and I have to say, they are solid devices--quite nice to work with.

and for Wallace Gibson, you contacts are absolutely able to switch to a new device.  You need to config. the phone to sync with outlook, then the new phone will also sync with outlook and the contacts will switch.  it can be a little hassle setting it up, if you are not familiar with doing it.  You can give me a call or email should you need assistance doing it, or choosing a new phone!

I had a Palm Treo 755p and tried the Pre and didn't like it.  I went back to my Treo for 4 months and then after lots of research, bought a Sprint Moment, an Android phone.  I LOVE IT.  My husband found a free program that syncs my Outlook calendar with my Gmail calendar which, in turn, syncs to my phone.  I imported my Outlook contacts into Gmail for my phone, but I couldn't find an expense-free way to SYNC contacts, so I just have to manually add new contacts into my phone (or Gmail contacts) and Outlook in order to have new contacts in both places.

The bottom line is, I love my Sprint Droid phone!  I love the slide out keyboard, TwiDroid for Twitter, the calendar reminders that are more subtle than the Treo, and all the free apps from the app store!

When you pick a new phone, you'll have to update your profile picture to show hyou with your new phone!  ;)  I hope you find a new phone that you're happy with.

Dwayne - I heard that the Palm Pre is coming to Verizon and the announcement was made in Las Vegas at Comdex last week.  The word is that they are adding some enhanced features and from the sound of things it will have the ability to broadcast a wifi signal to your laptop, iPod touch and other tech tools.
