Blogging, How do I get started?

This is not going to be an all inclusive, this is it, I've read Jay's post and now know everything kind of post. But rather just what I feel may be a couple of suggesttions, or reflections of thoughts I've had recently on how to improve my blog.

This is not boasting, but just making a point. I've been blogging for over 2 years, have accumulated over 100k, and I'm a Rainmaker. Here's the point;

I continually look for ways to improve my content, writing skills, and all facets related to my blogging.

How do I do this? what's the best and most comprehensive source of information to accomplish this?

Duh?

How about Active Rain?

The Rain seems to have a strong stable of knowledgable and successful bloggers. Maybe they would be a good source to help me get started.

A suggestion;

Find/develop a stable of knowledgable active bloggers here on the Rain.

How do you do that?

Read blogs that are of interest to YOU!

Pay attention to the bloggers style. How they develop the content. Here's a suggestion you shouldn't miss;

Subscribe to their Blog!!!

Build a strong subscription portfolio of knowledgable bloggers.

I guarantee you you can find them, right here.

and pay attention! Good bloggers will lead you to other good bloggers, and will teach you that you need to do some research to support you writings, if you want them to have some meat to them.

Don't just skip over some of the highlighted references. I read the post in its entirity and then go back and click on the referenced suppoting articles, or other bloggers, and their articles.

If you want to add blogging to your marketing plan;

Take it seriously!

Read 2-3 posts, minimum, per day. Write 3-5 blogs per week to start.

Read all of the comments!

Respond (thoughtfully) to all of the comments, whenever possible!

Okay, so once again, I didn't start off trying to say I know everything about blogging, and that you could use this post as an outline to become a successful blogger.

BUT

It should get you started!

Jay....blogging is not for everyone.....we all have our limitations, and the magnitude of cerrtain blogs from the well versed blogger cannot be attained by all.

That's how I got started - I read featured blogs, "how to" blogs, and started noticing which were easy to read and which attracted lots of interest.  I'm still learning!

Penny,

me too! and the learning never stops.

one of the most difficult things for me is reading blogs that i totally disagree with, and making sure if i make any comments that i'm not too negative, but constructive, and don't let my emotions get in the way.

I enjoyed your blog post.  I think another great point to make is to BE YOURSELF when you blog.

Jared & Amanda,

thank you. i agree that your blog should have a sense of who you are, so to speak.

that's one of the reasons i'm not in favor of those who pay others to write for them, and don't disclose that they do so.
