SLO Life: Pet-Friendly Moving

By
Real Estate Agent with I serve buyers and sellers everywhere in San Luis Obispo County BRE #01839596

A colleague at Coldwell Banker Premier Real Estate here in San Luis Obispo has written a terrific little book on how to safely and comfortably move your precious pets, and I think it deserves extra publicity.

Marilyn Fidler is certainly the right person to write this book, as she has moved over a dozen times in her rather peripatetic life...and has always had at least one pet (currently she has two dogs and a cat). Cats in particular are usually very unhappy about any change in their lifestyle, and extremely clever at disappearing at the wrong moment. Get helpful tips to avoid these situations in Marilyn's little book.

Can your pets fly safely, and if so, how do you prepare them? Are there pet-friendly accommodations where you are moving? How do you deal with cats or dogs on a long car trip? All these questions, and more, are answered in Marilyn' book. Read the reviews, order your own copy, and read her blog at:  http://petfriendlymoving.typepad.com/

Enjoy!

Your blog reminds me of driving with my super sized goldfish from central California for 8 hours to Crescent City when I moved. They all survived in a tall garbarge container and a minimal bubbler. I had found a cigarette lighter plugin electrical converter. Probably the sloshing of the water while driving also helped keep the water aerated.

Nice post. We have to be mindful of the little four legged members of our family. Finned and winged, too.

Hella, try a ten-hour car trip with two howling cats in the back seat! We had given them the tranquilizers that the vet prescribed, but for whatever reason they made the cats rather drunk and disorderly (and very staggery) rather than calming them. And we didn't have them in a real carrier... just a big appliance box with air holes! Never again. :-)

David, I wish I had had this little book when we moved from CA to CO and back again. It would have made the trips so much easier!

After having made a number of car and plane trips with cats from Pennsylvania to Colorado to Florida, I really appreciate the challenges, too. One of my tips from long experience: make sure the box spring in the hotel room doesn't have a hole in it (one of my cats found a tear during the night and refused to come out to get  back in the car). :)
