PLEASE be considerate and professional

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Showcase Homes

In the past two weeks I have had two experiences that make me wonder why some poeple are in this business.  I have a vacant listing--some furniture but no one living there.  An agent I have known for many years was showing the house and called me to tell me that it looked like a critter had gotten in to the house and she wanted me to know.  I drove over and sure enough the highlihgt sheets on the side board were chewed up, stuffing had been pulled out of the sofa, the critter had releived itself on the living room floor, and the molding around the front window was chewed on as the critter attempted to get back out.  I appreciated that call and took care of the situation.  Then I called the other agents who had shown the house in the past couple of days to ask them if they saw anyting amiss.  All three of them said it looked like there was a problem.  When I asked them why they did not take a second to call me, they said they never thought of it.

A few days ago, another vacant property, another agent who I have known for quite some time called to tell me that he thought the furnace had gone out since it was very cold in the house--we are having night time temps in the teens.  I went over and indeed the furnace was not working.  We solved that problem and then I called the three agents who had shown the house the previous day and earlier that day to ask if the house seemed unnaturally cold.  They said it certianly did.  I asked if they thought it owuld have been good idea to call me and let me know that since the house is totally vacant and the temp set on the thermostat is 55, they might have called me.  Again, gee, I never thought of that.

This job would be a much easier for all of us if all of us acted like thoughtful professinals.  I am grateful that were two long time professional agents who did just that.

It only take a moment to help someone out, and you would want then to help you when you have a problem.  I fully agree with you.

When you follow up on the showings just tell the agent - couldn't be much easier could it?

Yes, feedback from fellow agents should be standard. It would help shape future opportunities. But some just dont get it.

You are right on!  And thank you for following up with all the previous agents and reminding them to just be considerate of others - follow the Golden Rule and we will all be better off!

I can't believe it - it wouldn't occur to me NOT to call an agent and let them know - don't those other agents think - what if the tables were turned - unless they don't list any homes - but still it is common sense - one would think - apparently not.  Thank goodness for the agents who called!
