“Baton Rouge Valet Grocery”

There’s something new on the horizon, okay, maybe not that new but it’s new to me. This past week, I decided it was time to put the fork down and start diet #384723840. I started reading through one of the many diet books I have and found some recipes that made me smack my lips. I started writing down all of the ingredients, making a list for the grocery store. ARGH, the grocery store. Look, I love shopping. I like shopping for shoes, accessories, clothes, useless crap but the one thing I don’t like to shop for? Groceries. I mean, if you’ve seen one Twinkie, you’ve seen them all, right? I tried to pump myself up for the “Grocery-a-thon”, it wasn’t working. How am I going to pass up the Twinkie aisle? There’s no way I am not coming out of the store without a bag of ding dongs. Mmm, maybe this diet wasn’t such a good idea. It never fails, I go into the store with a list and I come out with half the store. This is what happens when you shop on an empty stomach. This is also what happens when you take your three year old grocery shopping. Yes, I can blame it on the stomach and the toddler but we all know who is really responsible for the added items to the list…um, it’s the talking Twinkies.

There is a site in Baton Rouge called “Valet Grocery“. When I first saw the ad in Parents Magazine, I thought…”Mmm, that’s different” and “Why didn’t I think of that?” and “I wonder if they stock Twinkies?”. It wasn’t until this past week, after dreading going to the store, battling the lines, be disappointed over the bruised fruit, trying to juggle bananas and a three year old…I decided to give it a shot. I, honestly, was not worried in the least bit about the condition of my items or their freshness because on their site, they have a satisfaction guaranteed. If you find something wrong with one of their items, they will come pick it up and credit your account. I mean, that’s like a “Win-Win”, right? I went down my tedious list of items, checking them off at “Valet Grocery“. Yes, I must admit, I was really enjoying myself. As I sit there ordering groceries, I imagined all the hustle and bustle going on at the corner market, while I was sitting at home, in my bed…grocery shopping. I’m thought, “It just doesn’t get any better than this”.

I had no trouble finding the items I needed. I was amazed that they basically had it all. If you didn’t see a product, you could suggest and/or request it be added to the site. After placing my order around 9:00 pm, I then got to choose what delivery time I wanted for the next day. The options were extremely flexible, I chose to go with 6:00-7:00 pm. Being a leasing agent, I didn’t know if I would have to show homes the next day so I wanted to make sure that I was there. I headed toward home around 5:30 pm and started to wonder, “Are they going to show up?”, “Are they going to drop the bags off at the door?”, “Will they just ring the bell and leave?” “Will my strawberries be red, instead of the brown ones I usually get?”.

I got home and started to wind down. Soon, my dog started barking and I think I got a little excited. Yes, I am a dork…I love trying new things. A man knocked on the door and greeted me with a smile. It was the grocery man. I opened the door and welcomed him in. No, they did not drop the groceries at the door, he showed up right in between 6:00 -7:00 pm, and came with a number of tubs filled with groceries. He was extremely personable, brought the tubs into the house and unpacked all of the groceries on the counter. Whew, I honestly felt like I was in the VIP section at Whole Foods. The fruit looked incredibly fresh, I can’t remember the last time I saw strawberries this pretty. Every thing was perfect. Yes, every thing was fresh, every item was accounted for and I was pretty proud of my new found valet service.

Lindsay - I know I'm a little late commenting on this blog - but, this is really cool! I wish we had this available in Central LA. I grew up in Baton Rouge and actually started my career with Danny Mackey at Coldwell Banker Mackey when they only had one office on Sherwood Forest Blvd.

Baton Rouge has come along way since then! Thanks for sharing this info and your experience. Have you used the service again since January? Just wondering. Thanks - Paige
