….DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE CONTENT ON YOUR OWN WEB SITE !!
I am very thankful to have found Active Rain in addition to a couple of mortgage forums that I participate in and moderate. However, the reality is that if I rely solely upon the content on those sites (WHICH I DO NOT OWN), then I really do not control it or my future. Meaning, one day the owner of a mortgage forum site that I post on could decide to sell the site, delete my profile and my entries, turn off the site completely, etc
Where would I be then? All of those hours and years of posting content taken away in an instant!
Meanwhile, I have my own web site just like many of you do. I spend a lot of time here on Active Rain as I should. Great connections, great exposure and of course Active Rain gets terrific Google rankings. I actually spend more time with Active Rain than anywhere else. For a while, I was ignoring the content on my own web site and noticed rankings and traffic was suffering. I didn't bother me so much because I was getting traffic to my site from Active Rain.
I was reading a lot of posts here about SEO, keeping content fresh, changing and tweaking key words, etc So, off I went to make some changes and taking the advice that others here in Active Rain had provided when creating a new blog post. Much of that advice also applies to other sites as well.
Today, I go to check on my ranking for some key words and phrases. Over the past few weeks, I knew that I was doing well with some terms related to stated income. However, I was absolutely amazed to find that for “Free Rate Quote”, I ranked on the first page for Google ! So then I checked Yahoo for the same search term and I ranked #4 right behind Geico and State Farm! (you will see Dream Home Financing referenced and hopefully STILL there if you are reading this long after the post date)
Did I get lucky? Do I really know what I am doing? I don't know...but I am going to keep doing what I have been doing because it obviously works. Applying the same techniques used in Active Rain helped my own web site raking.... THANK YOU ACTIVE RAIN for not only helping me with the exposure I get here but also teaching me how to keep my own site and my own brand maintained and visible.
