The Perfect AMC

With AMC's cropping up all over the place over the past couple years, you'd think someone would've gotten it right by now.  It's really quite simple and, with today's technology, easy to do.  First, hire good local appraisers at their local fees.  Add 10% for processing fee and the appraisal will still be priced well below what AMC's are charging the borrower.  By hiring good local appraisers, no review is necessary because, dah, they're good local appraisers.  They know the market better than the "quality control personnel" of the AMC because, by hiring good local appraisers, there is no longer a need to pay quality control staff.  Require upfront payment (since most lender already have collected it at application) so appraisers can be paid promptly without the 4-12 week wait.  Without all the micromanaging staff, the AMC would be profitable, and marketable to lenders because fees would be lower, but reports would be better having qualified local appraisers working for full fee without interference.  Doesn't seem that hard.

Yep, I agree, seems like a no brainer to me.  I'll bet most AMCs don't spend as much as you might think on all there micro management.  I think it's a huge profit ticket for who ever owns the AMC. Makes you wonder why some smart appraiser doesn't start one like that.  Wonder if a local AMC could make a go of it?
