NEED BUFFET IDEAS FOR MY HUSBAND'S 50TH BIRTHDAY-ANY IDEAS OUT THERE?

My husband is turning 50 in August and nobody should pass that milestone without a party!  So we are having a party of 50-60 around my friends pool and hot-tub.  I need to offer some good finger food to soak up alcohol (don't want anyone to leave the party with to much of that.)

The plan so far includes tons of boiled shrimp.  I have a couple people hired to handle the food but I must come up with the menu.  While I would like to do the cooking myself there is just no way I can do that and everything else as well.

So put those thinking caps on and help me come up with some good-stick to your ribs-finger food.  Oh, and not to messy.  I want to party not wash dishes.

Thank you!

I just passed my 50 in February. The guest of honor needs oatmeal and mashed potatoes and gravy. When you get that old you lose the ability to chew real food!

Hi Sybil,

I recently gave my husband a 50th birthday party as well, however, my party was much smaller (about 25) people. For a finger food I had the usual shrimp & veggie platter. I also had meatballs. I put frozen meatballs in a crock pot with a really good barbecue sauce and a little water. They were a big hit. For the main menu, I bought barbecue ribs & great rolls. My friends came with salads & deserts. I made barbecue chicken the day before and during the party I grilled a whole salmon. I thought I was going to have a lot of fish left over but we had left over ribs instead!

Good luck with your party, and don't forget to have fun

You can also go to any grocery store and have wraps made for the party. They make them bite size so they are easy to handle and you can have a variety of them made. I use them quite often for Broker's open and they are a hit!

Hey having a Pig roast is very popular again and I did one last year thought the price was rather reasonable....   I am all about the catering....  Have a great party

There are a lot of Tapas cookbooks out there, or google for Tapas.  The Spanish seem to have finger food down.  Another thing I would do is ask your husband what he likes but never gets.  That could be a good starting point.  Make it special.  Having passed both the fifty and sixty milestones with parties, the most important thing for me was the thoughts and feelings of friends.

BBQ Kabobs are a great pool party item and they just throw the stick away. NO DISHES and taste dang good.
