In Austin there are many groups providing an array of community services to help make life easier for those with limited incomes. Even when it comes to filing income tax there is help! To ensure proper filing of income tax returns the Community Tax Centers, a program of the local non-profit Foundation Communities, is providing free income tax preparation for individuals and families. The centers are opening early to encourage residents to use the free community service rather than paying tax preparation fees elsewhere.
Individuals with incomes up to $25,000 and households making up to $50,000 are eligible for free tax preparation, with slightly higher incomes allowed for households of five or more. Ten locations with convenient day, evening and weekend hours will be open, including sites in Bastrop, Del Valle and Round Rock.
Community Tax Centers expect to return $26 million in tax refunds to 20,000 Central Texas families this year. Taxpayers can call United Way's 2-1-1 line for more information about locations, opening hours and what documents to bring, or visit http://www.foundcom.org
