Home Shopping Tips

The process of touring homes can become very tiresome for a buyer if they try to tour too many homes in one day.  Recommend touring no more that 7 to 10 in a single day.  Touring any more homes tends to create brain overload.  Normally the more homes you tour, will cause you to be less likely to remember specifics about each property.  There are things a buyer can do while touring homes that will help them remember the specifics of each property and make it less confusing:

1. Bring a camera and take photos of each property.  The first photo of each property should be the house number.  This will help you keep your photos straight.

2. Make sure you take notes about each property.

3. Pay attention to surrounding properties, community amenities, schools, shopping, and traffic, etc.

4. At the end of the tour, decide which 3 properties make your short list.  Discard all information about other properties, because most likely you will not give them further consideration at a later date.

5. Properties of greatest interest, request your real estate agent to provide you a comparative market analysis (CMA) of similar properties in the immediate area.  It's extremely important that you are not paying an inflated price.

When i was shopping for my first home back in 1990, I actually brought a video camera with me. A few years later when I looked back on that, I realized that it was probably uncomfortable for the sellers. I would not want someone recording the valuables on the inside of my home.
