Here is a segment from 60 Minutes that I find so interesting that I havn't heard anything about. You would think that something this big and promising would be front page news. It makes me very skeptical of our government and big business. (ie. Who killed The Electric Car?) Apparently there are some very big names behind this technology that have whole heartedly embraced it in a big way. If this technology is viable and affordable, then it needs to get out in front of the public, not shrouded in some mystery as humbo jumbo. Here is my little contribution in passing it on.
I saw that the other day on 60 minutes. What a great idea. Did you notice European households consume half the energy we do? I think this is because they use 220 instead of 110 electrical current. Seems like the US should consider switching over, we could cut our energy consumption by 50%!
Pretty interesting. Looks like it is working in some areas. Having it work those "brand" name companies certainly helps to validate. It appears though the secrecy has been with the company, not a gov't or industry coverup.
Thank you
The technology is here, but the fear of what it may replace will stop it from ever becoming real. I agree with the reporter, if you have one in your basement it will say GE on the side. We have so many technologies out there that can cut our consumption in half and you dont see a wave of installations going on. It amazes me to go into brand new homes and see 80% efficient furnaces installed instead of 95% +. We should no longer produce 80% efficient devices. Or even the standard gas water heater that is only 50% efficient.
Ill take a BloomBox. I also have a dish so I am not connected.
Neat idea, but it obviously still requires 'fuel'. This is simply a new way to skin the cat with a very expensive price tag...initially at least. This is simply an appliance that converts fuel to another form of energy.....just like the boiler in my basement. As with all commodities, the viability of this technology will be rooted in basic economics. That is why we still create relatively inefficient furnaces and boilers.....the newer, more efficient equipment is more expensive to produce. As with anything we purchase (as long as the gov't doesn't get involved) the laws of supply and demand will run its course.
Kevin, I saw this on Sunday evening. It looks like a step in the right direction.
For some reason my comment above was listed anonymously:

Hi Kevin:
I saw this the other day also...
We need to keep going in this direction!
I was unaware that someone killed the electric car. You wouldn't know it by driving around San Diego!

Ken, I am sure that there are other technologies that have been bought by big companies and shelved. Status quo makes more money ~ for the time being...
Kevin, I missed this on 60-Minutes and really appreciate you for posting it on Active Rain. This guy is so impressive! Hope he's a whopping success!
That was incredible! I want a few of them... are they selling them at Walmart yet? Seriously - this could be a really good thing and I'm glad to see that Google and EBay are on it already. Maybe there's hope for the future.
Kevin,
Very interesting... I am going to do some more research as well as re-blog this.
Thank you for sharing,
