Today I took a morning off from selling real estate in St. Augustine and entertained old friends from out of town doing what tourists do, discovering and enjoying some of the many unique sites of St. Augustine. As a REALTOR, this time off is precious but helps me to know and love the town that I represent more.
What better way than a trolley ride. One highlight is The Villa Zorayda Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1883 as a winter home of Franklin Smith. He was the first to use poured concrete as a construction method. It was built in keeping with the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. It is also given credit for originating the Moorish Spanish architecture so prevalent in St. Augustine. It has gone through several chapters such as home to Egyptian artifact collector Abraham Mussallem, gambling casino and currently a museum.
